Save Swapping
When I back up my saves I just copy the entire win64_save folder (with the 3 .bin save files) to a DD2 save folder on my desktop. In the main folder I have one for each day or two I play and after about 10 or 12 I start to delete them.

If I want to save swap I will normally just back up that win64_save folder and then start a New Game with the newly added option. Then after a new start I would back this new start up and then just swap out the game save folder to my original one to continue on with the old character I started with.

This would essentially give me as many toon slots as I wanted.

Has anyone done this yet or done something similar to swap out save files. Thanks for any reply.

I believe there's a save manager mod to simplify that process.

I use "DD2 Save Manager" which creates backups of any saves automatically. You can even use it to play with different characters.

I was hoping to stay away from REFramework (scripts) until the game and updates settle down a little.

DD2 Save Manager is not a mod and doesn't affect your game in any way so it doesn't need REFramework. It simple creates backups and manage them.

I've been doing exactly what you are but guess I'll have to cave to these guys suggestions and get DD2 Save Manager, lol.

You haven't had any issues doing it this way? I may look at DD2 Save Manager but I do like this hands on swapping method myself.

Haven't tried the mod, but this doesn't work manually. Currently browsing the forums to look for other people who might've figured something out.

I backed everything up, uninstalled the game, reinstalled it and.. nothing. Start over from scratch. As long as the mod doesn't fix this, if you ever need to uninstall the game, you will need to start over.

I have done this multiple times and it works. I think you need to play until you rest at inn so you get your inn save and THEN replace the files with your backups. Worked for someone else with the same issue as you have

I would love for this to work.
Gonna try that out asap and reply. Still a hassle, if true. I think you need to play like 15 minutes to get to Melve?

The first camp also has a tent which works just like inn (i think its even mandatory mission to sleep in there), but im not sure if the game counts it as inn save though, probably counts since just before sleeping in there the game warns about not relying on autosaves and rest often

I have 3x games running together. (I prefer the early game difficulty with different vocations) Disabled steam cloud and just save the .rar the folder and rename.
Overwrite it when I want to load it back again.

Tested and confirmed.

For anyone who might look this up in the future because they intend to back up their save files or have run into the same issue as me before:

You need to start a brand new character and reach the first small camp. You don't need to worry about the file conflicting with your other pawn, but to be safe turn network features OFF for this. Once you have rested at the tent for 0,00 USD, because that counts as an inn save, go to STEAMID/2054970/remedy/win64_save and replace the files with the ones from your old save. I completely deleted the new save files, before inserting my old ones. Just because I also tested this with cloud saves (You needed those for ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with Monster Hunter Rise - also Capcom game). They get renamed to "win64_save_data000.bin", for example. Remove "win64_save_" and they work as well.

It appears that, for some reason, the game needs files to have been present in the folder, before it will recognize your save files.

That 'mod' is more like a tool, never interact with the game directly.

Manual save does works yea.

The potential issue about this I can think of is, not sure how their server looks at it. Of course if you never use online pawn system, or just offline then zero problems. First, for sure is every new save will create a new pawn in their server. Second, not sure is same steam ID with multiple pawns or pawn ID considered bad or not.
Hawk Apr 5, 2024 @ 4:52am
All the more reason to turn network features off. Your new pawn shouldn't get uploaded then, logically speaking.
