I see now why people don't like Dragon Plague mechanic.
I had zero warning or indicators. Just a message that it struck. Is there a mod to remove this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ yet?

Honestly, I wouldn't see this as much of an issue if there was an ACTUAL way to cure your pawn from Dragons Plague. Personally, throwing them into a river gives me the vibe that this whole plague feature was thrown in last second. Our pawns express constantly how scary this plague is, while also taking death lightly because they basically could just respawn. Death also happens to be the cure for Dragons Plague... so why would our pawns be scared of the plague when the cure is so accessible? If they added a questline that resolved around attaining some potion that can cure Dragons Plague, THAT would've been better.

Big yeah on that... game has multiple cool ideas but they are just implemented last second and not explored in-depth maybe some mods will change it.

Personally I would like something like 1 vs 1 against infected pawn event or something among the lines. More cinematic... Just small twists around it would make it a great mechanic. I still think Dragons Plague may influence true ending though but dont quote me on that, some people were locked out after losing core npcs.
Exactly. I remember when I first contracted vampirsm in Skyrim, I had to travel to some foggy village and go through a ritual to get rid of my vampirism. I remember how immersive that experience was. I don't expect any rewards like everyone else is suggesting. Only that it adds some sort of substance to the immersion to the game such as maybe NPC villagers reacting to the symptoms of our pawns, quest outcomes can alter, additional quests to cure affected pawns. SOMETHING of substance than just our Pawns killing an entire village for not throwing them into some river on time. I do like the idea of the Dragons Plague and I'm not at all against the consequences for not "curing" our affected pawns, only that maybe they should've put more thought into that feature.

It could be a bug or broken mechanic, but all these fan boys just hating out the gate, calling BS... its sad. Just because it didnt happen to you, does not mean it didnt happen to OP.

The indicators don't matter if the mechanic simply has no place in the game.
It encourages nothing not already reinforced by the game's other systems, and offers no unique reward for it's remedy other than you not getting screwed.

In Morrowind if you got Corprus, curing it leaved only the positive effects, namely permanent stat buffs, and the quest to do so gave you some of the most interesting lore in the game.

But in this jankfest there's just a random 'everybody dies event' that gets forced upon you unless you literally kill the infected pawn. The signs could be as obvious as the pawn incessently saying 'throw me into a river within 3 days or I'll blow up' and it would still obviously be a terrible mechanic.

There's no reason it should be in the game in it's current form.

I agree with that. Even worse we can rent pawns that are infected that should be a big NO. You can't even take off a mask or helm to see the eyes and some people are making red eyed pawns just to scam people. It was not well thought out.

But the Game even hints that the Brine IS a solution for Pawns :) ask Rook.
Pawns do not fear the Brine, as they know the Arisen can summon them back.
So it is the easiest and fastest cure for pawns which are infected with anything.

To go through an all-healing-questline everytime I hire an infected pawn? nope thanks.
Had three of them in my time so far, Brine them. It is faster. Why bother with a questline for random pawns from other players? My own was never infected so far.

But if an infected pawn at your party would change quest outcomes.... well that could be fun! Specially if this could lead to different rewards - which might be or not better depending on what you need.

Example:
Reward would be 5k Gold and a Rotten-Boild Egg normally.

But with an infected pawn on your side, you get I dont know, upgrade materials. But the questgiver dislikes you now a bit, because the pawn was rude.

Specially for "bigger" quests which rewards weapons or things this could been a cool interaction, no infected gives a "healthy weapon of light" and with an infected pawn you get a "infected weapon of sickness" with poisen on it or something...

Signs of the Plague:

Normally, they rub their heads.

If they don't usually back-talk, they start.
My pawn likes to backtalk by default in cockney accent, so that's a bit trickier.

When their eyes go red, they fade in and out a glowing, obvious red.

When you're out questing, if a pawn starts lagging behind, running off in a random direction
over and over, grumbling at you about simple commands, odds are they are infected.

You get messages warning you about the plague.
Pawns talk about the plague.

Before you sleep in an inn or in a house, you must absolutely do the eye check on all your pawns.

If you have fought a dragon and the dragon cast a spell on your pawn to mind control it successfully, consider that pawn a loss and toss it in the drink before you go to an inn.
As an additional safety measure, if you're really worried about it, throw them all in the drink. Then rest. Then go get them back at the summoning stone.

To everyone saying he was warned many times, remember this game is unoptimized ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ right now and the devs are currently working on a patch for tool tips not appearing, so maybe keep that in mind?

Kinda funny that there are instances of quests being bugged and the performance is busted but it's somehow inconceivable to people that this one aspect of the game is not exempt from possibly having issues as well

I figured you trolls would pop up. I had ZERO warnings or indicators. I was resting to make some fruit ripen and then a video played. I thought that might be a warning since I never seen it before but it turned out that was just everyone in town getting slaughtered and the game auto saved so I couldn't even ALT-F4 out to undo this crap.

Pawns coughing?
Pawns being disobedient?
Pawns hunching over?
Pawns having red eyes?

There are signs before this all happens. All you have to do is pay attention, it doesn't just "Spring up." like you're implying it does.

I hired a red eyed pawn like a dummy, realised before i left the rift and managed to swap them out

Wait, you can make your pawns piss in bottles in this game? Now I might have to buy this at full price...
