Compared to vanilla Dogma 1 the enemy variety is closely the same
Aside from Dogma 1 having like 5 more variants of stuff
Thing is Dogma 2 is a +priced AAA slop experience so it's fair to expect at least closer to Dark Arisen content ported over
Even if Dragon's Dogma 2 had more than Dark Arisen you'd have people suggesting that "12 years" should mean X more, where X is conveniently more than whatever is present in Dragon's Dogma 2.
Like, I feel like the TES games don't have a particularly huge variety (once you cancel out the subtypes, like the various levels of 'bandit'). Until you add expansions, of course.
They don't, Witcher 3 doesn't either. I think the poor variety has more of a sting to it in DD2 in particular because
1. the combat is actually good unlike TES or Witcher
2. there's way more enemies and no convenient "meta" fast travel option so you end up fighting the same enemies much more often than in those other games.
Additionally, Witcher 3 also has mostly great quest design so the focus isn't on the combat as much anyway.
Team Ninja games have really good enemy variety, they have a new enemy type for every main mission, and a unique boss at the end of every stage. Nioh 2 is the gold standard in enemy variety I feel.
All of the enemies change every 2 difficulties as well. Be it their speed/reactions or gaining new moves. You don't see the true game of nioh until you play on way of the wise. Pretty impressive to be sure.
Now if only someone who worked on those had been working on Dragon's Dogma 2...
Enemies on higher difficulties will mix up their attacks too, so you think they are going for a usual combo but then suddenly it's an whole new attack. It really keeps you on your toes and gives you a better appreciation for the enemies.
Skeletons, undead, phantoms, wraith wizards and wraith knights are night exclusive.
