How do you kill dragon's as a fighter?
Ok, so I'm 60 ish hours in, done a lot of exploring but very little of the main quest, I'm lvl 42 ish gotten gear from volcanic island and do well enough vs everything else, but freaking drakes and dragons kick my tushy!

They are a, walk in the park as nearly any other vocation, but as a fighter, I do low damage (even to the heart when the camera let's me climb there), and their spells obliterate me as my shield is all but pointless vs them, where as warriors super armour, thief's dodge skill, spearhand bubble, archer and casters just being miles away and nuking safely all with far higher damage can breeze through them with barely a scratch.

Am I just missing something obvious?
I find myself burning through 20-40 heals / stamina pots and one or 2 res stones every time I engage with them, but only as a fighter, which, is my favorite class!

So, please, any fighter mains have any advice to give on how to deal with these accursed flying lizards, that are almost easy as any other melee class.

Climb on top of the head and skewer it. The head is a weak spot, and unlike the heart you won't get crushed when attacking it. Bring stamina consumables and make sure you have food buff or Savagery Extracts.

Oh and take off your Rings of Disfavour if you're wearing them, it will make reviving pawns annoying.

fighter = knockdown / stagger and slam dunk them when on the ground, the taunts are good too for maximizing pawn damage.

past that, stamina + climb on it, head better than heart.

Even on the head I seem to tickle them and knock down seems all but impossible, I don't have dwarven unlocked yet (this is entirely on me ignoring the main quest) and the way your shield stats seem to only count when shield bashing doesn't seem to help at all.

Given that every other class has far higher strength and knockdown on their only weapon, wonder if that could be a bug actually? If it would count them both I'd be at 800 odd instead of 500.

Stand on the ground, tell your pawns to stay back and imitate the fight between the prince and maleficent at the end of sleeping beauty. When the heart is exposed, you'll know what to do! I love fighting drakes as the fighter. Parrying the claw swipes, shield bashing to get in if knocked away, it's just a power fantasy haha.

If only they didn't take off and nuke you with magic and take 10x longer than as any other c on ass while taking much more damage...

Bring lots of books of silencing and don't use them till meteor starts getting spammed.

I have not played much fighter at all... I've only just now started playing.

But i would say that fighter is a defender and tank first and foremost, considering how all of his class abilities (cant remember name, but the ones you lock up to use on other classes) is everything BUT more damage..

Instead you have things like more carry weight... fast stand up after downed etc etc..

You wanna do more damage as a warrior? you'll need to lock up things like more stamina, more damage to sweet spot (archer), faster stamina regeneration (mage) and then more Strength (the last one rank 9 thief).. Or all you can rely on is specific moveset or upgrading your weapons..

If you dont play some other damage classes all you'll excel as is a tank with next to No Stamina that stuns yourself all the time, and runs around in slowmotion, cause you always running out of stamina.

You don't. They're gdf irritating and if you do get them down the he 2nd to last hp pool they just spam ridiculous attacks so you're always either stunned or reviving pawns and can'tr do ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

You switch to another class and use that.

Seriously, though, I heard the feint attack does super high damage on the head if you dodged an attack with it. Otherwise, it's just a lot of climbing and hitting it when you can. For some reason, at least for me, using the skill-stab while climbing didn't do much more damage than the regular stab, it was just slightly faster. When it casts Bolide, don't block, just run.

Atleast it seems I am not the only one suffering with it.

I mean it's single player, sword and shield should not equal crap damage, you have 2 very offencive weapons!
If it does, atleast let it be the toughest, which is the biggest joke, because the thief and spearhand are hugely more survivable due to skill, that they can keep attacking while they are in god mode.

I haven't tried the leaping attack vs the heart, I will give that a go (my main pawn is an Archer so never even used it tbh).

Sadly, the passives barely add anything regarding damage or stamina regen (not found it a big issue anyway) other than the defence that add 30%.

I would be happy being bottom tier damage if I atleast had the top tier defences.

Good luck. The skyward attack didn't do that much damage for me. It was about the same dps as just slashing it with my sword.

To be fair, the shield is basically top-tier defense against most everything else in the game. It just can't block a meteor, and has low stability (kind of like the Monster Hunter SnS).

honestly I killed a few drakes as a fighter (my first drake kill was fighter), just spammed a lot under chest to expose heart weakpoint and utilized blocks and parries to the best of my timing.

One trick is if you get "killed" you can use a healing pot or herb before the game over screen pops up and you stand back up. Have to be quick about it.

Anticipate when it flies up and is going to slam back down, I do the dodge attack (I forget what it is called, but you roll back and dash back to attack and it gives iFrames). When it is casting lightning or Meteor, keep moving, as spells land where you were standing, so don't stand in one spot. When it flies up, you can either climb up tail and smack it down, but it's a gamble because typically it is prepping a spell and it will hit you as you are climbing, so I just wait it out.

Stay close, keep hitting chest/legs and try to knock it down to heavy attack heart for the bonus dmg when targets are stunned/knocked down

Having good pawns is half the work. Get a warrior for extra knock downs, get an archer for slightly higher dps and either a sorc with the ult-abilities, or a mage for the heals and weapon enchants. You kinda wanna build your team as if you do not matter. Archer will do pin-point damage attacks while the dragon is in the air. You warrior will keep it on the ground when he/she engages and your sorc will do most damage, or a mage will allow you to do more damage. Fighter = cc and tank. You decent damage, but you need damage dealers to clear bosses faster.
Cairn.L Mar 31, 2024 @ 12:57am
I'm too lazy to use skills.
As a fighter, now I just grab and stay on its chest the whole fight and spam Empale, it doesn't take long to kill it with a good amount of knockdown power, lol! :OrangeSurprise:
