Lost almost the will to play, because Sphinx managed to fly away 2x... should've backed up the save file.
Did all the riddles, last one was literally the riddle where you get the one kill arrow.
Was about to fly away, I got the arrow, just used normal arrows first, she got aggroed and accepted the challenge, I did few more hits, used the unmaking arrow, but on her face, and she got disappointed and flew away. So it ain't a one hit kill arrow.
Alt+F4 out, the game loaded just after the last riddle was solved, so had to open the chest again, got the unmaking arrow, tried to challenge her, but she just flew away, at least got the unmaking arrow. But damn, the last reward guess I can only get in ng+, and that's gonna happen lel after I've done everything in the first playthrough.

Anyway learned that, the sphinx doesn't like if you hit her human parts, will get disappointed and fly away. And that goes for unmaking arrow too.
Not sure what is considered for her to think you want to challenge her, either hit her animal parts or humans parts, or certain amounts of dmg or stagger/knockdown power needed in those attacks?

the way it worked for me was i kept hitting her ti trigger the boss fight, brought her hp down to where she decides no more and starts to fly off, thats when i used the unmaking arrow and it worked that way.

sucks you cant re-do it with your current save but atleast the reward wasnt something insanely good

Not sure how you loaded before shooting unmaking arrow, unless you loaded inn save? But then why can't you reload again to that point if it's not far?

Also, as someone who lost her on NG - it's okay to not complete everything at once. That's the point, that's what makes it interesting.

You don't need to back up your save file; that's what the Inn save is for.

There's something fishy here in their story, regarding save files.

I didn't have an inn save, at some point lost it, and I hadn't made one for a quite a while.
I just loaded my normal save. Could be also that it somehow reloaded while the sphinx battle ended, but resetted back to the last riddle ending, and gave me an unopened chest, so maybe because of that she ignored my hits and the battle didn't trigger the second time.

I didn't even bother "challenging" her - I just shot her wing with the arrow and she was satisfied with that.

Aside from completion, the reward is kinda mid. You just use it for getting a different achievement. Lots of incorrect information out there about what that item does, it seems.

Nothing fishy lel, the unmaking arrow didn't save if the sphinx didn't die to it. Unless it did, but put the sphinx and me into the last state when the riddle just ended. I managed to open the chest two times, and the first time I used the unmaking arrow.

Ok, nice next time I'll know. Don't bother hitting her, just go for her animal parts.

If you shot unmaking arrow - you lose your previous save (not inn).

Unmaking arrow saves the second you shoot though. It doesn't care if anyone died to it.

Pawns can hit her in the face too. Disband them and turn yours into support mage.

Did not lose it. I told ya, they didn't die to it, while they were flying away, I used the task manager to kill the game, as I can't alt+f4 out. And loaded back in, just right after the last riddle was ending, and got the unmaking arrow again. But this time I was not able to challenge her.

Amateur problems. I lost my will to play after a bug ruined my entire save with no way to restore.

I reinstalled my windows once (reset option, by keeping stuff), and it uninstalled steam and reinstalled, so it deleted all my save files in the steam folder, that means all capcom save files, so I had to play through Monster Hunter World and Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen again, and I did, and played MHW till 10% of Iceborne or something and DDDA played through till max level and all the achievements.
Losing everything isn't biggy, as I get to start over without having to wonder if missed stuff in terms of clearing the fog of war, but in DD2 if you go to ng+, the entire map is revealed regardless if you've been there or not,
I even deleted my Phantom Pain save file after playing it from 0 till I capture Quiet, because I missed the yellow mark on the map and it was gone the next time I got back. So third time I captured Quiet only to realize that yellow mark on her cell wasn't some missable thing. (konami saves also are in steam folder, so those got deleted too)
