Why is my Fighter always off balance?
It’s only this class that has that problem.

I noticed that when I played Fighter as well. A goblin or wolf would knock her a bit, and then she'd spend the next 10-20+ seconds trying to recover while any little thing that brushed by kept her staggering.

Yeah that’s been my experience as well. For a tank, it feels way too feeble. Half my gameplay is waiting for him to recover and it isn’t fun.

height matters, so if you're playing a short and thin character you'll notice yourself getting knocked off balance a lot but if you're more of a tall brawny build you'll be sturdier

There's a stat on each armor piece for knockdown res (I think it's the bottom one), as well as rings that boost it and lastly dwarven smithing that gives a big boost to knockdown res (unlocked through MA vocation quest).
TBH I've never noticed being knocked around as Figter more than the other classes so it's either the above or positioning- getting hit from behind seems to affect it more.

There is a stat called knockdown resistance. For whatever reason, your fighter's resistance isn't all that high.

It is, weird the way that warriors tend to have far better surviverbility than fighters.

I don't see any difference between sizes when it comes to staggering. I think it only affects speed, carry capacity and stamina regen

Thats cause Warriors are meant for facetanking attacks rather than blocking them like Fighter does.

As a result, they get core abilities and augments specifically designed for that kind of playstyle.

maybe it doesn't. it was in the first game and most of the features seemed to carry over, so i assumed weight would still affect how easily you get interrupted/knocked off balance.

either way your weight definitely affects your carry weight, which would allow you to equip heavier items and use enhancements that increase weight with better boosts towards your resistance. if you want to play a fighter/warrior and minmax, it's best to be a heavier build.

This is a good point. If you're not using your shield as a Fighter then you're wasting your time, switch to Warrior

The thing is, the shield is really badly implimented with very harsh timings for blocking, thst you don't block the way your cameras facing just makes it all the worse.

Meanwhile, warriors get higher damage, defence, health, stagger (both ways) and a more usable parry system along with super armour while charging attacks.

I love playing sword and shield in games, but it really does feel like it got the short end here sadly.

There is no timing required for blocking thoug? Just hold the button and it will block literally any and all attack from front (and even from up). Perfect block counter does need timing, but its really bad skill unless you are in 1v1 situation since it leaves you vulnerable.

Sure the damage is nothing compared to warrior, but it is still fine vocation. Warriors don't have parry? or do you mean the shoulder bash? that is extremely useless and bad, it will leave you vulnerable for pretty long time, and the enemy you just bashed will recover faster than you.

Pawns will prefect block pretty much 99% of the time, too. So if you don't personally enjoy Fighter its still a great Pawn vocation

as a lvl 60 fighter, who played it through the entire game and kept coming back to it. went through spearhand warrior and archer. Fighter was my favorite. you need 4 skills, skyward slash perfect defense the ult and the charge impale. perfect defense you just do mike tyson spins through the enemy staggering them and blocking in the process. Skyward is great for hitting big enemy's in the head causing a lot of knockdown chance plus those irritating harpies. dash self explanatory its how you close the gap. and the ult when you down something completely wrecks whatever boss. you get better at deflects with the shield longer you play. which is an immediate impale counter attack.
Balm Mar 30, 2024 @ 10:46am
shield should passively block strikes from whatever direction it is facing, or provide serious knockback reduction from that direction
shields don't only work when held up, and is one of my fantasy game pet peeves
