How important is armor really?
In the grand scheme of things, is picking slightly lower stat armor based on appearance really going to effect my gameplay that much? How much impact does the armor value really have for most classes?

I've been thinking of going without armor, since my pawns keep talking about one of their owners did that. I'll just run around in my fancy clothes the Prince regent gave me.

That's would I like to know, just how much meaningful armors Stat, or how much a difference? Is 10 more stats make much difference, if not, 50 would make difference while 4 or 5 more don't make a difference?

The difference between a Fighter and a Mage is huge in survivability
My Fighter pawn had 3x the health of a Mage pawn at the same level, and a strike that would take half HP from the mage would just tickle the Fighter
I wouldn't worry about it too much if you're playing a melee class, but on casters yes try to get a good bit, which you will most likely get anyways with 2 headpieces at the same time

All armor value is based on damage thresholds. The more points of damage reduction one has, the more points of damage are removed from an enemy attack.
It is possible to reduce all incoming harm to scratch damage if the armor value is high enough. 1 point can make the difference between taking damage and effectively nullifying it altogether.

That is not even accounting for the stat boosts that armor can give. It is possible to go without if one wants a greater challenge.

I wish there was some sort of glamour system. Spent all this time in character creator making my Arisen and Pawn look cool just to put my pawn in a giant tin can that covers him from face to feet and my Arisen has the slightest bit of face showing in his massive hood

Very important.

If you can't see your pawn's cleavage or ass people won't hire them

That has more to do with the stats of the vocations.

Fighter leans heavily towards defense and survivability to fit its role as a tank.

The defense stats are flat values not percentage based, directly the opposite of damage values. So if you're really high up there in terms of defense, you have more wiggle room. If a monster did physical damage to you, removing for example 100 defense, would be you take 100 more physical damage.

Well yeah, but there's a good benchmark to see how much defensive stats can help
And if you can bridge that gap by even half, then you should absolutely aim for it
Headless Horsemen can get you in a nasty stunlock where not having those defenses can be vital

Was as a ranger and he maybe came at me once, because of using the less aggro talent. Just wailed on him with Dire Arrows without a care, lvl 30.

Yeah that Thief Augment is vital for ranged vocations, even Thief itself, allowing Warrior and Fighter to keep all the aggro.
