Underpepared, or insane difficulty spike?

So I was lvl 22 when i went to Bahttahl (or however u spell it). I have arrived in the capitol city (which I learned DOESNT have its own portcrystal, very good game design btw); and I've generally felt pitifully weak? I just became a sorcerer before arriving and feel like I can barely scratch anything that isn't a bandit; even goblins tanked my spells like they were nothing. My pawns surprisingly did a lot more damage than me, and of course i get 1-3 shot by basic mobs if they decide to target me. I did literally every quest I found before crossing the border but I feel so weak?

so there's lore reason for the no port crystal, and yes you're a bit under level for the region. I'd suggest around lvl 30~

Seems like it's more an issue of switching to a new underleveled vocation before going into a new area. I would have gained 3-4 voc levels in areas you're familiar with before going somewhere new. (also, are you using the default Sorc equipment they gave you when you switched, or did you equip lv20+ gear? That'll definitely leave you underpowered.)

I bought the best gear in the shop in the capitol for sorcerer, I did finally get new spells now that im at the capitol so maybe that'll help.

Underprepared.

For one, the lack of Portcrystals and being only level 22 screams of not doing many sidequests.

Secondly, you just started a new Vocation. Obviously it's not going to do much damage. And worse, you chose a Vocation that has low health.

ya that's the vibe i've gotten, i was mostly ok with being squishy cuz i have pawns to tank (if the AI figures out its aggro). And IDK i did literally every sidequest I found, I must've missed some questgivers I guess.

Since you are magic based, have you found the elvish town to the south west of melve? Will be the best gear and place to upgrade for magic.

I got to lvl 33 before going to batahl and I had loads of quests still I could have done in Vermond or whatever its called...

Or having a hard time finding them. I'm lv30-ish, I've only gotten one portcrystal so far (put it in Elven city). Don't remember where I got that one from (I'm only up to the coronation so far, been wandering), so no idea when/where I'll get another.

Buy a weapon in town and youll be fine
levels dont matter too too much in dragons dogma its the attack value you have obviously higher level means higher attack value but its not a big deal

There's your problem, like wesnef pointed out.
Seems like a lot of people max out their first vocation right before entering Battahl, so they switch to a new class right when the enemy level spikes (which is a symptom of bad playtesting, but I digress).

Buying better gear out of the shop wouldn't make a big difference since no matter what, the stuff Sorc starts with is going to be a lot weaker than what you're used to on the class you shifted from.

yeah that tracks, tbh i was lvl 10 mage and rlly wanted to get sorc so i swapped kinda like i did in DD1 lol. Ima go roam around and see what i missed in the starter areas
