Some of the armors where replicas of Griffiths silver and Guts black armors. Additionally, Mercedes was pretty similar character design wise to Casca, though a bit more "obnoxious" personality wise.

There where more I believe - but can't recall much more than that.

EDIT : Ohh - and Selene (while not visually similar) was Sherieke as she was a wittch who lived in the woods and controlled golems, and lost her gran who taught her everything she knows.

The game has a great sword that honesty... was too big to be called a sword. Too big, too thick, too heavy, and too rough. It was more like a large hunk of iron.

More, the arisen getting transformed into abominations was akin to the apostles made through the behelits. With the player's own being as huge as the Eclipse. Daimon in particular looked similar to Zodd, and the trolls to various demons\apostles.

I always though of the Everfall as a reference to the prison Griffith was in, the one with the bottom that had the corpses of the last Apocalypse.

Aelinore is similar to Princess Charlotte. Also the duke of Gran Soren was soemthing of the King of Midland.

At the beginning of D1 you see the Hydra and Cyclops with a special mark on their head. That is bascially the upside down Brand of Sacrifice.
