Need help on obtaining Mystic Spearhand vocation

Hey everyone,

Currently, I'm in the process of tackling one of the three Brant quests focused on monster elimination. This particular quest, Monster Culling, consists of three parts. So far, I've successfully completed two parts: dealing with the Goblins and taking care of the Lizard Men in the underground of Harve Village. Now, I'm gearing up to finish the final part to unlock the Mystic Spearhand vocation quest.

From what I've gathered, to proceed, I need to journey to Melve where I'll encounter a dragon. During this encounter, I have the option to either defeat the dragon (Quite unlikely based on my low level) or weaken it enough for it to flee on its own. Following this, I'll need to seek out the Mystic Spearhand NPC, Sigard, to trigger the unlock for the Mystic Spearhand vocation.

However, I've heard of an alternative method. After encountering the dragon, I can go to a tower using a giant ballistic and use three large arrows to eliminate the dragon swiftly. Then, I must make a quick return back to the dragon scene and speak with Sigard, not only unlocking the Mystic Spearhand vocation but also potentially obtaining the most powerful spearhand weapon and the ultimate spearhand skill book from the dragon's loot.

Can anyone confirm if this alternative approach is valid? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know about the condition to unlock the skill itself.
But the Mystic Spearhand NPC later moves into the house in Harve. Dunno at what point, I found him a long time later by accident. So you can probably talk to him there if you miss him in Melve.

i was able to drive away the dragon there pretty easily with a rogue and warrior combo - my own pawn was set as a healer support mage, with succor, halidom, heal and lightning affinity.

it only took taking it down a couple of health dots. silence is your main win against drakes and dragons, I tell you hwat.

I was mystic archer during that fight which I picked up completely by accident and felt almost totally useless since the default arrows are resisted 80%+ it seems.

Literally just go to melve and fight the dragon, it's not difficult.

you don't have to defeat the dragon exactly, just take a few health bars off then it flies away, it should be doable even with a low level party

It isn't a true dragon and has multiple weak points. The tower method is just a way to kill it earlier than you should. The weapon is still obtainable later.

i mean you looked up a guide or else how would you know literally any of that. you're on the first major quest of the game and you know that you have to skip to basically near the end of 2 areas later....


so just find a youtube and watch it. what is your question even? you're blowing this all out of proportion because your guide wasn't detailed enough.

you don't need an "alternative." You do one of brant's quests, then oxcart or walk to melve. when you get there, you have a vision and then the dragon attacks. you can literally just AFK as the entire village is attacking it. it flies away, you get mystic spearhand.

the thing you looked up is how to cheese the dragon with an early kill to get the weapon it drops + skill book from dude. imo there's no point to that because you're going to want to go find and clear where the dragon is for other items / bosses... but you do you, game is easy enough without sapping any amount of discovery from it.

Yeah do this, speaking to him at his house there is how i unlocked MS. Harve Village probably needs to be rebuilt first, which comes as part of the whole lizard questline there.
