PSA Warning. Ledges. Perma-stuck potential
So I posted this in another thread already but it was kinda buried and I think other people should be aware that this can happen to them so maybe you can avoid it happening to you:

I found a new way for the game to suck, yesterday.

I dropped down onto a ledge and had no way back up. Couldn't get down either because water all around (deep). Also couldn't die as there were no hard surfaces I could fall onto or anything. Couldn't reload a save because I couldn't die and they decided not to let you load games from the menu at any time for some reason in this game.

Every time I would jump down in the water to try to kill my character with brine it would just respawn me on the ledge again.

So I was effectively hard-locked in place with no way out. I couldn't even start a new game.

Eventually, by sheer random dumb luck I discovered a bug where if I threw my character at a specific section of wall in just the right way I'd take a little falling damage even though I wasn't landing on anything solid. After enough times of doing this and drowning over and over in the Brine I managed to finally kill my character so I could load a previous save game.

So thanks for the bugs, capcom; They literally saved my play through from your asinine design.

I sympathise with you for your softlock, but ... pretty sure you can load an Inn Save from the main menu.

So if you ever softlock yourself again, just quit to main menu and load an Inn Save from there lol

exactly, in games like this that allow you to go anywhere there are chances of getting stuck in awkward places, the idea that the dev's can replicate this ahead of time is absurd. Also, the OP did get out of it so...

Absolutely correct. It was within their vision to softlock players from progressing if they dont look before they leap

What?.... Man what is up with people lately? Is everyone just getting dumber? Dragon rot IRL.

It happens. That's why Inn saves exist, and why you should always keep a Ferrystone on you.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

To the people saying "that's not a bug" - I wasn't saying getting stuck was the bug. I said the bug was being able to take falling damage by not actually falling and landing on anything. Basically the bug helped me get UN-stuck.

I didn't realize that you can just exit the game and load an inn save from the main menu. That still would have sucked as I do not sleep at inns very often at all but at least it would only be like a 6 hour loss instead of a 30 hour loss I guess..
