To be fair, this behavior is worthy of a beta, as it is feature complete if bugs exist.
They are a bit wonky near water. This ideally will be patched, but it is likely a low priority bug IMO due to the minimal effects on gameplay beyond having to resummon.
Anything they looted will have gone into your storage. If you have an issue with the pawn falling into the water - I'd be more concerned if the pawns were perfect.
The twitter posts shared every week is from a marketing team who's only job is to ensure people know that the game exists and build hype for it. They likely have no knowledge whatsoever that can help fix bugs like this.
How can this be a low priority when the pawn system is THE core mechanic given it is so bloated and convoluted. But at the same time I cannot stress enough how often big enemies just suicided like that. Dragons, gryphons, ogres, lichs. I have seen everyone and their mother dying stepping into the river on their own accord.
It is amazing to me.
There's a few dodgy spots in the first game where pawns'll jump over a chest into water, or straight up into an abyss. ♥♥♥♥ happens and unless it's been changed, summoning pawns of your level shouldn't take any rift crystals.
Large enemies suiciding is likely higher priority than pawns occasionally hearing the siren call of the brine outside of combat. I have generally moved combat away from water because of this. However I would likely not expect any fixes until at least the second patch as the first one seems like it will be more of a quick hotfix.
Pawns diving into the water in situations like you stated is IMO lower priority because it does not result in (permanent) harm, it will usually simply result in minor annoyance as you have to resummon a pawn. As opposed to denying resources from the player through large creatures drowning.
Large enemies suiciding is pretty inconsequential. The loot and xp reward is insignificant anyway. And when they suicide you do not get the loot expect when it is a rare boss type of mob. Pawns suiciding however is a huge pain in the butt. I just carefully crafted my team, picked the right two pawns for the job, use a camp kit and buff food, go on a journey and then they die by the end of the day and I am left with a party of three in the middle of the night. I'd totally get it if they died to something I was able to prevent. But this does not contribute to immersion at all but kill it. Imho, they should fix the pawns first. We have to deal with them 100% of the time. Encounters with large enemies are 5% of my playtime and are a waste of time anyway.
I've had some pawns randomly teleport and being put in dying state instead of disappearing after drowning, but no idea what causes it
