I don't understand the Brine system
I mean I do understand why, its to prevent people from travelling to undeveloped zones. I just don't understand why its applied to most water. Feels like missed opportunity to explore waterways and underwater areas

It would enrich the game, so if Itsuno called me and asked if he should flip the switch on swimming, I'd say yes... but why would I yearn for a feature the game is clearly not intended to support?

I don't think it's laziness anymore than its lazy you can't swim in ER. But the lore of the brine explicitly serves the purpose of explaining why you can't swim in DD2.
TBF I disliked it in ER too

It was initially created to keep from having to work a swimming mechanic in the game no doubt, but at least they gave it some lore significance.

I don't mind a coverup like that if it's worked into the world well; like how I'd prefer mountains or cliffs to form boundaries of a map instead of invisible walls.

Brine actually make a load of sense later in the story it's cool the way they implemented it this time around.

You could only go in so deep water in the first one also though - there is a form of lore description too (as Saurians don't die in it if its not too deep); it's a form of plankton that lives in the water and works like piranhas.

Put it this way - Assassins Creed would have you fall in water before and just be outside of it (so you assume you can't swim). Halo has you just die - even though that makes 0 sense since you can exist in a vacuum + great pressure zone with the armor (AKA lazy Bungie).

Is a way to have water, but assure you it's only for presentation (unless everybody wanted a desert without water period).
I know the purpose just a pity

Makes a map that 60% covered by water.
Also crafts "lore" that makes it impossible to take one step in.
Devs brag about the large size of the map.

What a joke.

Enshrouded should have used this lore and it would have made sense

Considering the ending, hopefully we will get underwater gameplay if they ever make Dragon's Dogma 3.

Or maybe in DLC? If the story takes place after the ending?

I'd love to see this game takes the game to underwater as well. The idea of fighting giant monsters underwater while managing stamina due to being out of breath sounds intense and fun.

I agree or swimming undetected to avoid naga or sharks

Oh stop it it's just part of the lore good grief.
Lore created to cover laziness.

Bro, if you wanna explore the water so bad, Dave the Diver is your game.

Elden Ring, DS, and DD2 are NO SWIMMERS ALLOWED.

lol

That is not really a reason why it had to be

Even your sarcasm is bad.

Subnautica is the best underwater game ever.

I do, just because I can't swim for 10 seconds, I now have to make a 10-15 minute detour.

Worked fine in DD1, because DD1 had few bodies of water. DD2 has a ton. Lore wise could have just kept it in the ocean, or still bodies of water. Having it in rivers seems a bit of an odd choice.

That is my opinion too especially since brine is reserved usually for the sea, not fresh water

soma/Bioshock would disagree with you.

I can do X in this game but not in this other game so the other game must have purposely prohibited me from doing that thing to hide a problem.

-or-

Games are different, goals are different, ideas are different. And, different is okay.

Mario Brothers (original) had me restart the world if I died too many times, was this to 'artificially extend the game' - or - was it just a design choice?
