Pawn quest "Receive Boltscale"?

What exactly is this pawn quest asking for?
I've farmed out some boltscale, given some to the pawn. Idk what else to try.
Do I need to get it as a quest reward from someone else to trigger this?

Or is this bugged?

where did you find the bolt scales ? i need those for upgrades but iv not yet found any

Darkhorde cave. Directly south of the Elf Village. To get there is a bit of a wiggle affair with the map but there is a road/path leading up to it on the map as you make your way over.
Some lightning lizards inside the last cave part. Very tucked away.

When I went to try this, I literally noticed a "Give item" option in their dialogue. Didnt have to dismiss em.
