Is there a way to cancel an escort quest?
I had Glyndwr show up at my home, I talked to him and started a quest that wants to take me way, way too far out from where I've currently explored. Is there any way to cancel this or postpone it?

Not tthat I know of. But don't worry too much about it, it is a re-occurring quest. So even if you fail it or he got lost along the way lol You can do it again later, provided he still likes you.
Which is super easy, all you have to do is give him flowers.

I once took an NPC with me all the way through a dungeon and then took him to his destination a while later, he even had dinner with us at a camp XD
If you keep the NPC long enough on the escort quest, it will fail the quest, but it is a repeatable quest with no penalty I've seen for failing. That said, it takes a very long time for it to fail.

Escort Quests are the only way in which you can get Arisen companions that use Arisen-only jobs. This is the game's way of giving you non-pawn NPC companions. Don't finish the quest, just have them be your companion and fight for you until they die or despawn. If they die, they do not end up in mauseloum.

How do get an NPC "show up at my home" (the first one in the common district in Vernworth) and ask for an Escort quest?

I just get bags of goodies they leave hanging next to my door.

I sleep there over and over but no one shows up.

I've maxed affinity few but they're not important NPC's, some in Scared Arbor, some are romaing 'friendly' Bandits. For testing I maxed Kendrick in the slums and then slept in my house over and over and no escort quest from him. I've maxed Taleisin (chief in Sacred Arbor) and nothing, they just leave gifts hanging on my door.

Most NPCs are not escortable. Mainly the ones that play a significant role in the story are or some random NPCs you meet out in the world. Also not every single one of them will show up at your house in Vernworth. From what I've seen, only Ulrika and Glyndwr really show up there.

Some Battahl NPCs like Menella, Lamond, Hugo and Empress Nadinia will only show up at your Battahl house. Taleisin and his daughter Doireann ask to be escorted while you are in the Sacred Harbor, and I know Trysha's grandmother Eini will sometimes ask to be escorted if you pay them a visit after completing their quest. Basically search around where the NPCs usually dwell or at your house in the two cities and you might find someone who wants to be escorted.

^ Thanks.

I guess that's a whole category missing in the wiki pages: list of which NPC's request an escort at your house.

They all only show up at your cheap home, as far as I have seen. You can have a cheap and an expensive home at the same time in both bakbathal and vernworth. I didn't find the seller for the expensive home in bakbathal, yet, however. (I only read about that at the forums.)

I kept feeding NPCs gifts making it so all the NPCs in the game fall in love with you. (Unfortunately, getting 50 NPCs wanting to walk to you when you spawn in... Kind of causes the game to go to a crawl) So it is better to avoid doing escort quests as often since there is only the benefit of them giving you flowers if they are maxed out.

Thanks for all the advice, guys. Loving this game so far! I ended up biting the bullet and taking him to his location, luckily it was right along the path of an oxcart!

its not as far as it looks, take ox cart to rest town and walk from there, it looks long but its not. You be there in no time, Then you can place a porta-crystal when you arrive for more than just him.

The problem for me initially wasn't the distance rather than I had intended to go the complete opposite direction for a different quest, I was just stopping by my home to get some supplies before leaving Vernworth haha

ah yea annoying as,f. when i see him i iether stay at the inn, or just say NO, end of all the escorts from him then. now i just tell all of them No on each play-through, lol why do they block the door anyway :)

Edit..
Not his main quest mission though ofc. just his escort turn-ups .

Glyndwr and Ulrika loitering outside the Common Quarter home are the main reason I usually stick with the Noble Quarter home, even though the bed is a nuisance to access. That and it is closer to the Pawn guild.

But then since I got all the affinity-related cheevos already, I'm not really bothered if they hate me now, so I can just decline them, pick them up, throw them at a wall or whatever. I'm pretty sure Glyndwr has given up on my Arisen now since he was loitering around Vernworth when I went on my last killing spree to gain FPS...

... It is just a shame that all the NPCs I cull just reappear a few days later like nothing even happened. Why do we even have wakestones again?

yea, just let them die

I love doing this. But I just bring Ulrika. She ignites my tarring shot more often than my pawns do.
