"Alright, lesson on modding.
There are roughly four types of modding, and when you know them you'll recognise them easily enough.
The most basic type is substitution. This is done by simply taking one file and renaming it to a game file so that it is used instead of the usual file - mostly this is used to change the way items look. Just take the picture and swap it for yours, and voila; it now looks different.
After that, we've got variable editing. That's when you take (number)variables in a game (such as how much damage a weapon deals or how much health the player has) and changing it. Since many games define pretty much anything with a number (fireball is skill number x, ice spike is x+1, zap x+2, etcetera) you can do more with this than you might think.
Third is the one that makes modders super-happy - when the dev gives them a coding kit. Skyrim has this, and it allows the player to do almost anything the dev can do. (Exceptions are core mechanics)
Lastly... Modder heaven. Released source code. That's basically the same as giving your game away for free. Modders can do literally anything, because they have access to everything the dev has.
Dragon's dogma is somewhere between type 1 and 2. We can swap images and we can read and change a few files, but that's it. To make multiplayer you would need type 3 and some tools for the user (users would need to download server software, because the game doesn't provide them by itself. Look up multiplayer Skyrim; there are one or two mods but they require extra stuff to make it work) or type 4 (where modders can do literally anything, so yeah. That includes multiplayer)."

The problem is that balancing them both properly is really difficult, and it's often pretty easy to tell when one has been prioritized over the other. It's really common for a co-op sequel to a single player game to either end up having compromised solo play, due to screwed up balance, awful AI companions, and/or level/mission design that's clearly built for multiple players.
That's why people are so against DD2 having co-op.
People just want to play co-op with some friends, whats so strange about it? Lmfao
Adding in co-op would negate the point of pawns, because doing content, exploring, fighting all of that made YOUR PAWN more knowledgable for which they would share that knowledge with other players earning you better rewards. Your involvement and engagement was to make your pawn a GOOD pawn. Doing this co-op I think will just take away from that system.
In and of itself, nothing. The issue is that some people feel it appropriate to go into the forum for a single player game and have a tantrum just because there is no co-op and no plans to support co-op.
***IF*** it does happen, it's going to be just as ♥♥♥♥ as it was when Skyrim Together first dropped.
