Where did Talos come from? [spoilers]
I feel like I may have skipped or missed something crucial, but why did the giant statue suddenly show up. Is it explained anywhere at all? Did the guy under the sea send it or mention it?

Is there some side quest or lore that mentions it? It's part of the climax of the story of the game, but its never mentioned previously at all, and is in my opinion totally out of place due to never being hinted at or foreshadowed before hand.

It seriously feels like I missed an absolutely crucial plot moment, or maybe it just vanished from my memory, but that whole sequence was bewilderingly dumb to me.

When you go under the sea, and the ghost guy gives you his soul, you get a cutscene of tales eye opening. As you leave by elevator you see various giant statue peices. I'm guessing whatever was keeping talos undersea ended with the ghost arisen.

Talos coming out of the sea is triggered by receiving the fixed gods bane from ambrosius. If you don't then you can finish up any leftover stuff.

The statue feels so misplaced. If only because the entire "boss" fight at the end with it has zero interaction from the player. Why even have it there if it's "just there"?

Could have been part of a proper boss fight.

Guess they have a big map and wanted a big boss, most of the bosses are underwhelming tbh

I remember some of that now, but it doesn't make sense that the godsbane is the trigger since talos goes for phaesus party, not you.

I triggered it by going to the volcanic island. while I was away I kept getting "Meanwhile" scenes. I never actually got to see Talos moving at all beyond those cut scenes.
So it seemed really out of place for me seeing as there is a timed challenge for beating Talos... but like... I was nowhere near the dude ever during his march.

*Edit, I did get the Fixed Godsbane before taking the side route to the volcanic island. but he didn't trigger his march from the sea until after I was part way through the side route...

Talos is a being that used to be Tiber Septim, former Emperor of Tamriel. After death, he ascended as a god. In godhood, he absorbed the essences of dragons, resulting in dragons becoming nearly extinct in Tamriel. Having an eternal hunger for dragon soles, Talos scryed the ether for more. He found crystals and used these to open a rift to Gransys. On Gransys, Talos learned of a false dragon god, Grigori. The false god, had something that Talos require - a sole. Talos will not rest until he vanquishes Grigori and takes his sole. Once complete, Talos will then stand as the true dragon god and emperor supreme to none other. And, now you know. ;-)

Talos is explained by both Albert when he's pretending to be a beggar and more importantly the Rivage Elder. The problem is people don't check back with the Rivage Elder by the portcrystal in Harve from time to time while progressing the main story so they tend to miss his dialogue, but he talks about Talos even in his first dialogue, which he'll repeat if you go away from him and rest and come back to.

Looked good in the trailer, that's why he's there.

There are many notes scattered around Bakbattahl that reference Talos. There is also a team of researchers studying stones around the desert, the stones all reference Talos.
