Sphinx quest, the stupidest quest design award goes to...
I am enjoying the game, but some parts of the game really draws me crazy... today I want to complain about the sphinx quests :)

for the first group of quests, I find 2 out of 5 totally broken.
a little bit context, I am on my 2nd run, first run was a mess, I skipped more than 50% of the content and some how get through both endings. It was hell a rush which I really didn't plan to but there is no turning back damn stupid save mechanism

ok back to sphinx quest, the most stupid quest ever designed, it asks you to go back to where you find your first seeker token, you have 7 days to find it. WTF are you kidding me? I am into 50 hrs of the game and this is my 2nd run, you ask me to go back to where I find my first seeker token?? go ♥♥♥♥ yourself whoever design this quest, and as token wont respawn in your 2nd play so for many players can never complete this quest unless they start a new character and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ how annoying is that

and here comes the second most stupid quest, find a NPC you have max affinity lvl with. and there are hundreds of NPCs in this game and there is no way to look up affinity lvl with NPCs. Basically so far only way I searched is that when you talk to a NPC who has max affinity lvl with you, he/she will blush :) WTF ???? I somehow, I don't even know when and how, I have max affinity lvl with one male NPC which I got the achievement and of course I have no idea who the hack is this male NPC :) Now literally I need to talk to every male NPC in every fcking corner of this fcking world to figure out who would blush when talking with me :)

how could any game quest designer come up these 2 most stupid ever quests in a same game, how??? why????

Personally, I'm having a blast

Maybe they will update it a bit to make the npc menu more clear and make it easier to find your first seeker token. I'm wondering if pawns could remember your first seeker token location.

I was upset when I saw that was one of the riddles :( How are we supposed to remember that???

For the max affinity one, just put your pawn on the pedestal.

For the seeker token one, pull up a map online and go through the tokens one by one starting at Melve. Not a great solution, but the game sucks ass anyhow, so might as well cheese it.

For the affinity one you can just use your main pawn.

That said, yeah, I'm screwed on the token one, I went scouring for where I could have found my first token, even using online maps to see where token are and checking all the spots I thought were relevant. Couldn't find it.

Don't panic! You don't have to finish the seeker token one! Let it run out of time, then continue the other ones. I mean you can successfully finish the sphinx quest line without completing the token quest.

Thank for letting us know about this. You get 3 ferry stones from it at least but I'm wondering if it's possible to unlock an eternal ferrystone at some point.

Did you do the elf quest with Glyndwr? Where you save his sister?
Then it's Glyndwr. And if you didn't, do his quest because it'll auto max him out easily.
I found him outside the main towns weapon smith (I was a archer, this might have mattered.) [spoiler}Gift him a human bow. He'll appreciate it. Disappear. You'll find him in that same exact spot again later where he'll ask your assistance in understanding how it works and invite you out for target practice. Shoot a target, he gets excited, and he can go do the rest of his quest and take his archery test.
Meet him again, same spot, a third time. He invites you to the Arbor sanctuary where the elves are and when you arrive with him in tow he can't take that test he has been mentioning from the get go because the people in charge are out trying to save his sister from a Ogre. Head to the Ogre's den and he'll distract the Ogre and you need to carry the sister outside.
Afterwards they have a little heartfelt moment with the Dad and (I think) after you speak with the Dad and Glyndwr again he's confirmed maxed.[/spoiler]
I can confirm that the max affinity people blush- Glyndwr showed up at my purchased dwelling blushing and inviting me to a 'jaunt'. We ran 9 miles. But that's besides the point.

Wait until you need the final reward for it to fix the Dragonplague mechanic. Easy uninstall.

Wait you said you got through both endings. If you did the post game for the 2nd ending then youd have unlimited amount of ferrystones. What did you do in the post game?

Look at that... tons of solutions that were intended answers for the quest. Looks like it wasn't that big of a deal right? I loved the series of quests from the Sphinx, actually had my thinking and running around trying to gather materials to raise someone's affinity with me. Never even thought of using my own pawn. Like, why not just raise your affinity SUPER fast with a new person... than run around and try to find that same person who is blushing? That was a dumb thing you did... not the quest designer. It was a fun adventure. Use your resources and your brain, makes the game super mysterious and challenging.

Its a little easy to spot if you are careful at checking once in a while on your pawns. Talk with them, check their eyes. If they have a faint red glow/start to get a red glow, start talking about a 'pawn illness', things like that--throw them to the brine and resummon them. If they are disobeying commands (acting billigerent towards commands) or holding their head and looking like they have a headache, that also is signs of dragonsplague.

I agree its kind of a silly mechanic, but should be easy to look out for. The game does tell you about dragonsplague when you run into it the first time. If that happens, toss every pawn into the brine and resummon to be sure its cured.

Your pawns have a likelyhood of catching it if they fight the drake or dragons--or come into contact with someone's pawn who has. Just keep an eye out.

YouTube is your Friend its all on there if you get stuck
DD2 is filled with the sorts of things people loved in old school RPGs, so all I'm understanding from criticisms like this is modern attention spans are rather lacking.

Seeker tokens are out of the way; I remembered where I found my first one exactly because I had to go out of my way to get it, and was rewarded with a random shiny token.

You won't get an achievement if you do this. Unrelated but equally annoying to max your pawn out on their knowledge of the Sphinx you need to face the Sphinx 5 times. I doubt you'll get randoms to help with that quest anytime soon without begging friends so good luck.
astranabeat Mar 26, 2024 @ 2:52am
Your Pawn should be able to help you on this token quest. I mean they are with us all the time right? Other Pawn that be with us when we pick first token should know it too. It'd be awesome if this is the case.
