I'm level 33 as of last night and this setup has been going really well.
Make your pawn a fighter and take magic archer
Start with strider(or assasin), the one with dual wielding dagger. When you got the skill, spinning air attack, it's the start of your good time. THat move is broken in both DD1 and 2. And later, you have a invinciable skill as the master skill.
If you want to experience why this game is a cult classic, start with mage and it's advanced class. You will have two grand magic in the end. Meteor shower, and tornado. Even it's nerfed in the game, but nothing in the game industry has anything close to it.
As for pawn, mainly use fighter for survival and tank. Don't expect pawn to do good DPS.
The best pawn is mage, there is a mage staff, let the pawn revive itself.
