What exactly are the online requirements for DD2 and how do they work?
The system requirements on the Store Page include "Broadband Internet Connection".

So my assumption is that the game logs in to Capcom's "pawn servers", and it's not possible to play without doing so. Pawns can be obtained only when the game communicates with Capcom's servers.

Is that correct?

Does the game terminate if it loses its connection to Capcom's servers?

What statements, if any, have Capcom made about the length of time they are committed to keeping the servers alive?

you can play it offline unless you wanna use other people's pawns, which can only be used online

The game has an Offline mode, complete with built in "Capcom" pawns. Capcom's servers going offline one day is a nonissue.

The only time you ever have to go online is to verify your game's legitimacy with Denuvo the first time you download the game.

You can play the game fully offline without issue. If you lose connection while playing connected to the server, it just disconnects you silently and you start getting only offline pawns.

The servers for DD1's pawn servers are still up, so I suspect they'll be around for a while.

The game can be played fully offline. There's an option in the options menu to disable the online features. It also has an embedded pawn pool for those who can't or don't want to use network features. The only disadvantage is that getting RC will be far harder, as they mainly come from getting your pawn hired.

Thanks for the quick replies. It's good to know that the game is functional offline.

Regarding the offline pawn pool, are they fixed, or does it generate them randomly or something, perhaps each time you enter the rift?

If this is handled the same way as the first game, my understanding is that Capcom made a few dozen pawns for each class at each level, which are then randomly pulled from the server. You can still search these premade pawns in the same way you can search player-made pawns when in the rift.
