is DD2 the best OPEN WORLD JRPG ever???
Yup. Feels like it.

Edit - We need more Monsters Capcom, and more health for them in NG+

Everything could be better, but you won't hear me nitpicking every little detail that is not to my liking lol. Its cool to have your own opinion but when I say I enjoyed exploring that area of the map, I mean it and its mostly due to the excellent combat system that even after 50hrs I'm not bored of.
Combat and exploration aren't the same thing, that's why I'm criticizing the open world here. The combat is fine enough, but the exploration is bad. If you took out all of the enemies aboveground, this game would become bad. The same isn't true of other open world games.

Hm. if you take out the combat of this game, you also need to take out the combat of the games you like to compare, or it isn't even. So what gemas are better - explorations-weise - without combat? I realy wonder. (and tobh, I don't realy know any. Perhaps skyrim, but that's all. And that's only, becaus the combat in skyrim isn't that good in the first place., yo it focused on other things. In DD (1 and 2) it's vice-versa.)
Nontheless, As I said, for fans of western-games it's the only JRPG they probably play....
(I have such a friend, btw.)
I also didn't realy play any JRPGs yet. I don't realy know if they're something for me... So I just didn't dare yet.

I didn't say take out the combat, I said take out the aboveground enemies. That means the only combat is in dungeons and tombs.

Elden Ring isn't a fair example since most of the combat is in caves and tombs anyway, but even if I extend it to removing ALL combat, it still works. There's enough to find while exploring that it could subsist on just the sights and platforming.

Breath of the Wild is an example of a game that's still good without overworld combat, too (Tears of the Kingdom even more so because of its building system). It pioneered the feeling of mountain-climbing without needing a preset path and is otherwise puzzle-heavy.

Skyrim and Fallout work as well for the reason you stated. The points of interest are legitimately more interesting than anything else you're doing, regardless.

Dragon's Dogma isn't the only game that focused a lot on its combat, Souls/ER is frequently called a boss rush simulator. It's just that...

...you know how some people say Elden Ring would have worked better as a regular, semi-linear Souls game like Dark Souls 3? DD2 feels like that. I feel like the only reason this is open world is because DD1 was open world.

Its very timegatey basically the entire map divides everything up with mountain ranges. A trip that would take you 5 minutes ends up taking 20 because theyve put a mountain in the way
Dude me and you are never going to agree, so just leave it at that lol.

Im not trying to get you to agree I dont even know who you are

Its 100% an open world, but don't expect large open fields with nothing in them as the modern trend of open world games, as everything is more compact for more quality then quantity imo.
Wtf what...? Spamming monsters and chests is literally quantity over quality.

Dude me and you are never going to agree, so just leave it at that lol.

There is not much else competition as there are not a whole lot of JRPGs with open worlds with emergent gameplay opportunities at all.
It is not like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth matches up in that way. It does have old school nostalgia factor going for it, though.
Tales of Arise is pretty decent but still not a patch on this.

I beg to differ, exploring in DD2 is great because, there are a lot to be found, and the vistas are beautiful. Some places even requires you to use levitate or riding on harpies to reach. Going anywhere feels like they're just within reach because you can see your destination from afar, and when you're getting close, you get awed by the view, which is my experience when reaching the checkpoint town

Depends on taste. For me. It's definitely top tier open world design. I personally love the steep mountains and valleys and going into the desert is such a cool shift in feel with the skylifts and stuff. I love it. definitely a 9/10 from me. Right up there with Elden Ring.

Depends on your preference for open world rpgs. I would say its definitely up there. Its one of the only games where I didnt need ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of mods to make a character that looks like me so its already above most rpgs because of that. If you can make a character that looks exactly like you and another that looks exactly like Gary Busey in the same character creator thats just astounding.

It does make for some memorable non-scripted moments. People like mentioning this guy around here so I might as well post one of Asmongold's videos reacting to some of them.

Elden Ring is way better. And it's an actual open world, unlike DD2's glorified corridors.
True on that. Is massive let's down on the map designed. It make the game feel like big but it's not.

No. It isn't a JRPG.
It is a Western-style ARPG made in Japan.
