Hm. if you take out the combat of this game, you also need to take out the combat of the games you like to compare, or it isn't even. So what gemas are better - explorations-weise - without combat? I realy wonder. (and tobh, I don't realy know any. Perhaps skyrim, but that's all. And that's only, becaus the combat in skyrim isn't that good in the first place., yo it focused on other things. In DD (1 and 2) it's vice-versa.)
Nontheless, As I said, for fans of western-games it's the only JRPG they probably play....
(I have such a friend, btw.)
I also didn't realy play any JRPGs yet. I don't realy know if they're something for me... So I just didn't dare yet.
Elden Ring isn't a fair example since most of the combat is in caves and tombs anyway, but even if I extend it to removing ALL combat, it still works. There's enough to find while exploring that it could subsist on just the sights and platforming.
Breath of the Wild is an example of a game that's still good without overworld combat, too (Tears of the Kingdom even more so because of its building system). It pioneered the feeling of mountain-climbing without needing a preset path and is otherwise puzzle-heavy.
Skyrim and Fallout work as well for the reason you stated. The points of interest are legitimately more interesting than anything else you're doing, regardless.
Dragon's Dogma isn't the only game that focused a lot on its combat, Souls/ER is frequently called a boss rush simulator. It's just that...
...you know how some people say Elden Ring would have worked better as a regular, semi-linear Souls game like Dark Souls 3? DD2 feels like that. I feel like the only reason this is open world is because DD1 was open world.
Im not trying to get you to agree I dont even know who you are
I don't know what steam was doing but I thought i copied Netsa so ignore as that was not even intended for you nor does it make sense with your post lol
This is what it should have been Below
Dude me and you are never going to agree, so just leave it at that lol.
It is not like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth matches up in that way. It does have old school nostalgia factor going for it, though.
Tales of Arise is pretty decent but still not a patch on this.

It is a Western-style ARPG made in Japan.
