Reason being? They(industry) don't need more quantity(buyers) because the majority continue to buy. They are buying into a product before even knowing it's status. Is it a good product or is it broken on release? They are pushing as far as they can for minimum viable product without losing money.
The minority waits to see what the product is like before purchase while the majority still dives in and gives up the cash. So the cycle continues until the company doesn't make money from it.
I pretty much just stopped buying games from the big companies of the industry and sticking to the small dev teams and indie games. The passion is still there with those games.
