Invisible Floors/Missing textures. Vega 64
Starting this Discussion just to see if anyone with a Vega card has managed to fix the texture issues,
just a summary of my situation;
the game runs smooth 60-70 fps medium-high settings the only problem i'm encountered is the whats stated in the title.

what have I tried?
iv'e tried comparability mode 8 + 7 (this fixes the floor but adds smudging trail effect on everything on screen when i turn or move.
disabling full screen optimisation, with compatibility and without does no effect other than tank performance.
deleting shadercache file ( does nothing)
repairing game files through steam (does nothing)
lower and turning off all graphics settings (does nothing)
checking config file for ForceMeshShader=Disable (enabled for disabled does nothing)
adding the line AllowMeshShader=Disable (makes the game crash)
The game is installed on a W.D_Black M.2 (new) so that its not a drive problem
Disabling write caching on M.2
Everything I have tried has been done with admin.

Specs (if interested)
AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core Processor
32GB DDR4 RAM
B550 Gaming V2 GIGABYTE Motherboard
Vega 64 Strix 8gb Graphics card
Windows 11

Bios,Windows,Amd,Steam all updated.

I know im not the only one with this problem im just curious if someone out there has found a fix with this card. Hope is all I need.

I believe it is because of Vulkan that is forcing the meshes to be turned off
The mesh problem makes little sense, because those were introduced in 6000 series gpus

alan wake 2 does not have a mesh shader requirement either btw. Its not a mesh shader requirement problem there either. If it was a mesh shader issue, only 6000 series and newer and the 10 series of Nvidia gpus wouldn't be able to either, but they do work.

The whole mesh shader being required was a big misunderstanding. And if it was a mesh shader issue, Dx11 would immediately fix it, since mesh shaders are a DX12 ultimate feature, but it makes no difference.

so either there is something wrong with the driver pipeline for vega cards on alan wake 2 and dragons dogma 2 that is specific to Vega, or there is a rendering bug that disproportionately affects vega cards.... and since its not just vega getting hit with this issue, we can assume that is partly a bug in this game, but also made wirse by something wrong in the drivers.

what and the minimum requirements list non-mesh shader supporting cards.

So all we can do is hope that they fix the issue and it solves the problem for Vega too. But it feels like if they investigate why there are workarounds for other cards and not Vega models they would get to the root of it pretty quick.

it might fix it for us too if it fixes for others, might be the same root cause afterall

It's on the developers side and can only be fixed by them, I wouldn't expect it happening anytime soon tho they taking nearly 2 weeks to implement a quality of life update to add features that should of been in the game since day 1. oh and "miscellaneous" bug fixes.
Calan Mar 28, 2024 @ 2:12am
I had a vega once, the buggiest and most abhorrent AMD card ever released. Had texture artifacts and shutdowns constantly on it. Glad I upgraded

Same issue here. Tried various fixes - didn't work. My video card is Radeon VII.

Vega 64 user here as well.

I can confirm that there is no workaround found for this issue.
The game runs perfectly fine outside of this issue, with low graphic settings I can get a constant 100+ fps outside settlements.

I suspect this is due to vega cards not rendering meshes properly, we need to either find a way to disable shaders meshes or an option to do so

This is grave news, It saddens me to hear this, lets pray they don't forget about us.
thank you for the reply.
amd themselves forgot about vega gpu's

possible to fix on the driver side too

Really sorry for you that you had to experience this.
I'm a 7 years vega 64 owner, and it was the best investment I made in gaming.
I can still play video games with ok graphics and good performances on a 7 years old card, and I got it at that time for 250$...

Capcom got back to me, but only sent a laundry list of basic troubleshooting tips, I ran em all anyway but surprise surprise noting worked. Sure hope they can make a statement one way or the other soon :( just want the issue recognized.
iamlegian Mar 28, 2024 @ 10:38am
We should all report it to support, maybe they'll pass it on higher if there's thousands of us.

Vega 64 User here as well.... same issues.... UPDATE for the game did not fix it... man... i been emailing Capcom about it, no reply yet accept for asking me for Dxdiag.txt and .NFO file from system settings.

They’ll probably just tell you to disable your antivirus, re-install drivers and run a SFC scan. Sucks lower tier support seems to be giving us the run around. Below I copy/pasted the troubleshooting for those who want to skip this step and days of wait time for a response so that maybe we can get this recognized

Please ensure you've followed the steps below to rule out problems with your PC, Steam, or the game’s files:

1. Add the game’s folder and files to your anti-virus program’s exception / exclusion list
Some launching issues may be attributed to certain Anti-Virus software preventing the game executable from launching due to a false-positive error. We recommend users add all of the following files and folders to the Anti-Virus and Firewall exclusion list to prevent this issue. If these files and folders were already added previously, try removing them from the exclusion list and re-adding them.

Note: To quickly access the following folders, press Windows Key + R then copy and paste the folder URL below.

DD2.exe Default Location:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Dragons Dogma 2

Steam.exe Default Location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam

Steam AppData Default Location: C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Steam

For a guide on adding exceptions to your anti-virus software, please visit one of the following links:

Windows Defender[support.microsoft.com]
Malwarebytes[www.malwarebytes.com]
Avast Antivirus[www.avast.com]
AVG Antivirus[support.avg.com]
Kaspersky Anti-Virus[support.kaspersky.com]
Webroot SecureAnywhere[answers.webroot.com]
McAfee Antivirus[www.mcafee.com]
Bitdefender*[www.bitdefender.com]

*For Bitdefender, you will need to also add the game’s .exe file to the program’s Whitelist. To do this, follow these steps:

Open Bitdefender
Go to the Protection tab
Click “View Feature”
Click the gear icon inside the “Advanced Thread Defense” box
Select “Add applications to the whitelist”
Browse and navigate to the .exe file
Once the .exe file is added, close Bitdefender and relaunch the game

2. Give administrator privileges to Steam and the game
Some users can get the game running properly by running Steam.exe in administrator mode. This can be done by right-clicking on the .exe file and selecting “Run as administrator.” If that doesn’t work, try running the game’s .exe file in administrator mode as well.

Additionally, please ensure that Windows Update has been run and that all the latest updates have been installed on your operating system.

If you still experience issues, you may want to try performing a clean installation of the video driver set. This will remove any extraneous driver DLL files or game profiles that existed with the previous driver installation.

To do a clean video driver install, many enthusiasts use a third-party program called Display Driver Uninstaller[www.guru3d.com] (DDU), which completely removes components that were part of the original driver installation package.

Run DDU and uninstall old video driver.
Install the latest OEM video card driver and reboot your PC.
Run the latest DirectX installer package[www.microsoft.com] and reboot your PC.

IMPORTANT! Please don't forget to reboot Windows upon completing a video driver installation. This will help reinitialize the driver and the graphics card using the new driver.

3. Double-check your desktop / laptop’s power settings by performing the following:

If using a laptop, ensure the charger is connected
Open Control Panel
Select Power Options
Select “Change Plan Settings”
Select “Change advanced power settings”
From within the dropdown menu, select “High performance” and click ‘Apply’ then ‘OK’
Launch the game

4. Update DirectX
We recommend downloading and running the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer[www.microsoft.com] to ensure DirectX is fully up to date.

5. Update your Windows Media Player codecs
Certain cutscene segments use video playback which relies on Windows' default Media Player codec. Please try installing Microsoft's Media Feature Pack from the link below.

Windows 8 or newer: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/media-feature-pack-list-for-windows-n-editions-c1c6fffa-d052-8338-7a79-a4bb980a700a

If you have separately installed another codec, there may be compatibility issues with certain video codec which may cause video corruption issues during gameplay. If you're using a different codec besides Media Feature Pack, please ensure the codec is configured so it does not run under Media Foundation.

6. Verify the game’s cache in Steam
Try verifying the game's cache in Steam. You can do so by following the steps outlined in this Steam support article (reposted below). This may find missing or damaged files that need to be repaired, even if you've just installed the game. You may also try temporarily disabling your anti-virus while verifying the cache or launching the game, as on occasion anti-virus programs may flag games or the files necessary to play them as a virus.

To verify the game’s cache, follow these steps:

Restart your computer.
Rename (or delete) the folder "Dragons Dogma 2" in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common (default).
Launch Steam.
From the “Library” section, right-click on the game and select “Properties” from the menu.
Select the “Local files” tab and click the “Verify integrity of game files...” button.
Steam will verify the game's files - this process may take several minutes.
Important: One or more files may fail to verify. This is normal for most Steam games. The files that fail to verify are local configuration files that should not be replaced as part of this process. You can safely ignore this message.

This process allows the Steam client to scan every single file you downloaded for this game, verify checksum of each, and compare that against the file manifest data on Steam's content server. If the file is missing or has a different checksum value, you will receive a message stating "X files failed to validate and will be reacquired." What this means is that some files have either been deleted, or may have been corrupted. Click “Close,” and Steam will automatically download and / or replace the problematic files.

7. If you are experiencing issues with game stability, please confirm that there are no other applications running at the same time.
Powerful software like video recording applications can compromise the game's performance and stability by using a lot of CPU, GPU, memory, or I/O bandwidth. If the game is suffering from performance issues, please close as many applications as possible while playing.

8. Perform an SFC scan:
System files can get corrupted and affect game performance and/or stability. In cases like this, System File Checker can help identify and repair corrupted system files. For more information, please check this Microsoft article: Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files.

9. Perform Clean Boot:
In some cases, third party applications can affect the game's performance and/or stability. Performing a clean boot can help you determine if that's the case. For more information, please check this Microsoft article: How to perform a clean boot in Windows.

10. If applicable, revert overclocking to default values:
Overclocking can sometimes lead to instability and compatibility issues. If you are overclocking your hardware, reverting to default clock values can help prevent some of the aforementioned issues.

11. Please also check your hardware for any issues.
Faulty hardware can cause various problems. We suggest making sure that it is not overheating and using Microsoft's hardware troubleshooter to check for any underlying issues. In order to use this troubleshoot, please open Windows Powershell (admin) or Command Prompt (admin) and type msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic.

You can also Check Corrupt Files and Recover Window image.

In the Search Area, type CMD and hit Enter.
In windows opens, click on the Run as Administrator option.
In windows opens type command: sfc /scannow .
Wait to finish.
Type one by one the next command and press Enter at end of each:
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
sfc /scannow (yes, one more time)

After the process is finished, press Ctrl+Alt+Del and restart the PC to verify if the issue is solved.

Please also confirm for us if you are using any mods or a Windows Insider OS version (Please make special note if you are running Windows "N" and "K" editions that do not come with Windows Media Player.)

We highly appreciate your cooperation and look forward to hearing back from you.

Best Regards,

CAPCOM USA Customer Support
