you can use a spell book or tome consumable from an opening I open them like this
You launch them up to a chest? Instead of opening the chest, they just jump down again sometimes.
You want them to launch you up or to levitate? They won't do anything and just stand around. But they are great at doing the ladder launch in the middle of a cave when nobody needs this.
There is a locked door in a house and you need to shoot through a window to open it, but sadly are a melee class and have no grimoires with you? Pawns are too stupid to do it for you.
I have to rely on harpy lure more than I would need to if the pawns would just do their damn job. And it's a waste of time to run the whole way back to a vocation guy to get the correct vocation to do it yourself.
We need a command to exactly tell them what skill is needed so that they use this skill where you want them to. "Go!" is useless most of the times.
Other doors I've mainly opened by going around. For example by dropping in through holes in the roof. Another way is to go there at night. Sometimes undead will spawn behind the door and destroy the lock for you.
Yes, with melee, you can't to anything. Mage pawn won't attack to provoke the mobs, because there are 2 barred doors with a corridor in between. The pawns just don't know what I want them to do because there is no clear command for this.
I will return now and change to archer. Two of these frustrating situations right next to each other are annoying.
#1. Some have entrances elsewhere. You have to find the hidden entrance in the roof or underground or something to get in and then open the door yourself.
#2. Some are in shacks with a window on the other side. If you've got a ranged weapon you can open them through the window. Easiest with spells though arrows can suffice. Otherwise you might have to try throwing things through the window.
#3. In some caves / tombs you find cage doors barred from the other side that you have to open by baiting monsters into attacking them. Generally requires getting the pawns to wait back a bit.
I had to switch to archer to shoot through the window (window was too small to throw something through - I tried this with different objects).
And I couldn't aggro the mobs in the cave with the two barred doors because they were too far away because of a corridor between the two doors. Arrow did the trick again.
Pawns were completely useless in both situations.
And yes, of course I know that you can change vocations which I did do because with my warrior I couldn't solve this. I changed to archer for which I had to run back to the vocation guy.
If the pawn AI was smarter, this could've all been avoided since I had both mage and archer pawns with me who were too stupid to help me with this. They should complement what my player vocation lacks and not force me to do all by myself. This is what all my complaint is about.
Oho, that seems like an overlooked solution.
And this is the reason why - in the future - I will always take grimoires like these with me when I switch back to a melee vocation. Too bad I left them in the storage because I didn't think they were all too useful and just weighed me down.
Still, I wish the pawns could help more.
