How to break barred doors?
Without having a ranged attack, its clear to me that these doors have to be shot open from a window, but i have nothing to attack them with and my archer or mage pawns dont do anything.

The locked doors that I've encountered so far either would open later during a quest or you need to find a cave or an opening to get to the other side. For example, I found an old cabin with a locked door and noticed that there was a hole in the roof. I threw my pawn into the cabin through the hole and she opened the door for me.

You can shoot the wooden planks through windows yourself if you've got ranged attacks, otherwise there should be an alternate route to get in and break it with a melee strike (e.g. there's one house in Vernworth with an open window that has no other entrance aside from a ladder that leads up from the underground you can find).

I actually just noticed the ladder, but no clue where the entrance is, its the Marshland Settlement

Yeah should be able to get to it somehow, I haven't done it personally to find out where it is though. Maybe check near the water's edge or somewhere with lower elevation.

I have seen plenty of regular small houses with barred doors and cracked walls or windows to shoot them with explosive arrows.
What to do if you are a melee class? No idea

Nothing works from the front, nothing throwable fits in the window

I just hung around the backside window of that hut spamming GO! until my mage decided to throw a massive ice attack that broke open the door. (I was trying to bully my side archer pawn to dealing with it, but then my main pawn was like "its cool i will be overdramatic and fix the problem")

I've been throwing my pawn at the door. They then get up, run around to whatever hole there is, and shoot it for me. They never get it if I just tell them Go, sadly.

There's a stone bridge nearby with an underground entrance under it or close that gets you to the ladder

This is buggy but still works, you can aim your camera through the window and use a tome to break it with a spell. Something that casts a ranged attack like Levin.

You can either find a way around them or wait for an enemy to spawn behind that gate, provoke it a bit and let them hit the gate.. this is what I did with that stupid ancient chamber shortcut between arbor and melve.. stupid cave...

Just run Warfarer with mage and archer weapons. This will let you get everything.

Really depends on the door.

So if it is clearly barred and not just locked there is a few tricks I use.

Jump over

Throw pawn over

If it is in an area that spawns monsters walk a little away save quit to menu. Come back in tell pawns to wait and walk over to it. Mobs might spawn on the other side (might have to wait for night for alternate spawns) they will argo on you. Stand so they attack the middle of the door.

If none of that works then most likely it can only be accessed from the other side.

sometimes you can pick up a pawn stand in just the right place and set the pawn down through the door. But that is more a glitch then a real way to open the door.

Bonus... you can throw pawns up to those knock down ladders in a lot of places
I can't open the door in the Trevo mines, I am on the armor seller's mission that I must go to the Trevo mine to recover some items.
Also to go to the archer in the marksmanship teaching mission I have to get to the other side. Or I'll have to look for ways
