The game flow was a lot better when you could get back max HP in several ways.
In Dragon's Dogma 1/Dark Arisen, you could get your Max HP back by doing several things:

1. Using 'curative' items, like Greenwarish. This has been removed, and is treated like a healing spell, unable to restore max HP.

2. Leveling up, which used to heal HP completely. Now, it treats extra HP as a 'wound'.

3. Just standing near any rift stone would restore your and your party's HP back to full. This effect has been removed entirely.

4. Resting overnight.

Now, the only way to restore HP is resting overnight.

The problem is even with nearly perfect play from the player, the pawns will typically be at less than half max HP within 20 minutes of exploring. and returning to a rest stop typically takes a fairly long portion of the time it takes to go out anywhere.

The whole change feels more like a huge time sink than a any kind of extension to the challenge.

If it were going for some kind of analogue to realism, then the idea of healing overnight from lingering wounds that would sap your max HP to that extent would also be absurd.

Instead, it's kind of a 'fun tax' - a road toll not really helping anyone, compared to the similar but more strategic limited restoration available in Dragon's Dogma 1.

If the objection is that instant healing was available in the menu... that's still present! You can still heal from about anything with that ... that part is no different. It's just that now, there's a constant draw to USE that healing, since all your Pawns will be at partial HP 80% of the time. The remaining 20% of the time will be devoted to going to camp and back.

It's just not a great way to explore a world. Especially with time sensitive quests.

There's already mods to remove this Max HP loss 'feature' and I do recommend it. Though I'd prefer it to work more like DD1, so at least the feature would add to the game, rather than remove from it.

camping is so easily available the only time i have found myself in a tight spot was holding that magick archer skill that drains hp for too long.

Sure - for you as the player if you're playing carefully. The problem is that pawns do NOT play carefully, which limits your range severely as a party, no matter how well you play.

dont know what to tell you, not an issue im having myself.

I dunno I enjoy it. But I'm also the person who played Skyrim with hypothermia and thirst/hunger mods.

Also it introduces some emergent situations when you have to dig deep to stay alive. Had a back to back fight with a manticore then a lich boss. We were all pretty beat up when we hit the lich.

I was throwing everything in my inventory at keeping my pawns alive and wearing down the enemy. When we won (by a hairline) it felt pretty damn great.

Pawns can't lose as much max HP as you can and they also play carefully as they learn to fight specific foes, plus their inclination plays a big role in how they play. My kindhearted buff bot stays alive longer than I do, primarily because he avoids damage and dishes out buffs and heals constantly. Where as a straight forward warrior will rush into the fight and not care about being hit.

It's different yeah, but it's growing on me. There's a LOT of camping sites all over, and you only lose your camping gear if you get ambushed, which has only happened once in a couple dozen rests for me.

I think it's a good solve for preventing you from just slugging potions to overcome any combat challenge, and the loss of max HP feels like a real punishment when I mess up. It makes my Tank-fighter main pawn and damage prevention spells like Palladium feel really, really good. If your pawns are still getting messed up it's probably a party composition issue. Get yourself a shield fighter, or better yet, hire mine!

I have crawled back to town so many times with max health halved and nothing in the bag so many times now. Every time I see that stupid bridge it feels like a finish line. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Also, running past stuff is allowed.

Yeah with items like Panacea no longer giving you HP bar back it just feels like there's way too many redundant healing items now with no real purpose, I guess with the camping system they figured that should be how you replenish the bar but honestly the old system was better as you didn't need to stop and start so much but I really don't see why we couldn't have had both?

First game trivialized it when you hit your first healing spring and made 200 vials of healing spring water.

Even if you can't do that this game you can still make big stacks of healing items with minimal effort so it would again be trivialized if you could just heal max health. It wouldn't even be a blip on the game play radar just like DD1

Also, health items are everywhere. I need some steady stamina items.

I've not had that severe of a drop in either my health or my pawns. I don't rest that often, and actually enjoy the additional challenge in preparing for adventures.

The health system is actually fine, you're arisen but you're not a robot. You'll have to make plans, when to camp and when not. Just be sure to keep 1 or 2 ferry stone in your inventory for when your health is really low and you can't find any camp.

If your pawns are at half max hp after only 20 minutes, you're not doing "near perfect play". You're clearly doing something wrong lol
