Also hey, we meet again.
You can see it at the start:

Yeah, it's off of your aerial kick. It's Archer's only defensive move, but it's also not a guaranteed knockdown. For example, if a Fighter uses Burst Strike (and all of them do), it's a toss-up whether you're getting the vault off in time. And if you try doing basically anything else, you're done because none of your moves are cancelable.
I have not really played archer, Can you spam it? Odds are it does knockdown damage so if you hit them with it like twice in a row it should.
That is how the thief ability where you scorpion rope throw them does. It will topple off balanced large monsters, throw small monsters, and cause knockdown damage on human sized ones where the first time you hit them they sort of stumble and when you hit them again they topple over
I would urge anyone who doubts how silly this is to throw their main pawn off a cliff and try actually soloing with Archer in virtually any fight that isn't against harpies. It's a basic class, so it's cheap to check.
you have plenty of movement as an Archer (i am an archer main).
It's the class that actually has to use the kick a lot in close combat.... you slide, jumpkick and disengage with it. It is basicly your "dodge" and damn amazing.
The archer plays totally different than other classes and you have to push so many buttons realy quick (like jump+kick+shot) when running against an opponent or as a slide when not moving to a target (jump+kick) to avoid a stomp by a zyklops.
Keep in mind, some enemies have straightforward tracking attacks (like the Saurian's leap) that basically demand that you move sideways to get out of the way. There's no instant dodge roll so that's not always possible, so it's basically land your own attack (or kick-off) before the enemy hits you, otherwise you get hit.
I switched to Thief for a little bit just to grab his first passive, and the difference in mobility is massive. The whole idea of having to counter or die just flies out the window.
I'm talking about a scenario in which your pawn is either dead or, in the case of that fight in Battahl, forcibly locked out.
