Does it get better?
I’ve just gotten to the palace city and done a few quests. I’m level 19.
My pawns just repeat the same sentences over and over. City is dead. For an rpg in 2024 I expected a bit more freedom and immersion type things. I’d rather play oblivion that came out in 2006.

Judging by the original, not really. Just more of the same. Might be more tolerable if Baulder's gate 3 didn't exist.

This isn't Elder Scrolls it's Dragon's Dogma, sincerely don't know what you expected.

It's like people who complained about not getting arrested for stealing things, it's just not meant to be that way, you are supposed to loot everything like you are Link.

The game has it's focus and offers more than the first in places with the camping, oxcart and a bunch of other things so to me it's DD on steroids.

My expectations for this game were based off other medieval style rpgs I’ve played before. I was comparing this heavily to dragon age inquisition as well.

I'm getting the same feeling. It feels like 1/2 of a game, or like they took a 12 year old game and gave it updated graphics without optimizing it.

Unfortunately DD has never focused as hard on the roleplay elements.

It's got a lot more interactions with the world than DD1 for sure but never nearly as much as Oblivion.

DDs was always an ARPG that emphasized more of the A than the RPG part than usual. The gameplay is exactly what it's supposed to be and what people who played the original expected. If you got gameplay that you didn't expect then you can only fault yourself for not doing any research on the product you bought.

Actually. Again, from the trailers it was so obvious. The facial animations are basically static with ugly DS1-era graphics. The voice acting is hilariously bad where the emotions don't match what was happening in the game. The lip syncing is non existent. NPCs act like mannequins. It's just bad.

I really don't know what people are complaining about. The NPCs lack variable dialogues, but they actually have routines like Oblivion, not just standing around to be questgivers like in DA Inquisition. Some of the sidequests are actually pretty neat. It's just that there are no exclamation marks in the city to tell you that they're there and I suspect some of them only trigger under certain conditions. Explore a bit. Also if some NPCs die they also take their sidequests with them to their graves.

And that makes you laugh?

Totally different game.
You might as well say that Fall Guys would be more tolerable if Baldur's Gate 3 didn't exist.

I'll be totally honest, having never played a Dragons Dogma game, but having heard about it alot, I was interested...

My favorite games of all time are Dragon Age, Baldur's Gate, Pathfinder Kingmaker, KOTOR, You kinda get the picture, I was hoping for a nice RPG with some choices, good flowing combat, and climbing on monsters...

This game, ain't those games. Story and RPG elements take a HARD back-seat to the action/combat.

I'd argue that it's player agency is worse then Starfield, which basically boils down to: "Did you do Quest A? If yes then you get this general reaction, if no, you don't get a reaction..."

With the story pretty much going the same direction regardless.

Acting is...meh, It's a Capcom game that is dubbed over from it's Japanese original...so it's gunna be wooden.

I enjoyed the Pawns for the first like...6-8 hours of dealing with them, but it got old REALLY fast.

What gets me is that if the action is supposed to take center stage, why did they expand the world size and why did they expand the story? There is very little freedom where there clearly could be because the game is set up for you have a go-here quest 100% of the time.

And the gameplay isn't even what it should be. Cutting down classes to one weapon was never a good idea, and if fighting is the main point of the game, where's the enemy variety? What happened to something like half the spells? What happened to two of my skill slots? Where's the return of BBI? Why aren't there more story bosses?
