Help! All NPC's died!

I went to stay at the inn in main hub. Screen goes black and I hear people moan as if they died. Screen stays black and I wait a couple of minutes but nothing. I close and restart but everyone is dead except for kids. All town names are in red. I thought it was the Sphinx so I ran out to her but nothing. Is my 40 hour game fubar?

well believe it because it's 100% an intended design. If your pawn starts talking smack? They have dragon plague. sleep at an inn and they go hyper-murder the entire town. Which is then hard-saved.
it's designed to turn the "inn save" which is our only reliable safety net, into a trap to punish us for daring to not one-life the entire game start to finish in one continuous run with zero interruptions.

-the Crapcom defenders, always ready with an excuse to make it seem like a single drop of water is the single highest honor we should ever expect to receive, and that asking for more is the greatest crime we can commit.
Not that saying it wouldn't be intensive, nor that the game is equivalent to one drop of water. Merely mentioning the fact that the most blindly(far too much) loyal fans would make it seem like it.

So I found a work around. You have to buy an Unmaking Arrow from the Dragonforged north of Bakbattahl for 8 Wyrmslife Crystals (he had 5 on his bed for me). Go to Sphinx and shoot her in the wing (has to be wing or she won't die). She'll drop key for big gold chest behind her which has Eternal Wakestone. Go back to Vernworth and use it in town, it will confirm you want to raise all 254 people..... I can now progress again...

gather wakestones, you can revive them all, but id suggest jsut reviving ones for qUEST AND items

Don't know, didn't have DPS meter on, but It felt smother in town.
