Cannot complete escort quests

i seem to have run into an issue, Twice now, with escort quests wherein the NPC in which i am escorting disappears and all i am left with is the final quest marker but no way to interact or complete it

Okay, I'm not sure if this is an actual solution, but I'd advice to try and go back towards the place where the escort routine had started. For me the missing NPC popped up near the place they've previously disappeared.

Was pretty hilarious for me, though. Early on the player has to follow a squad of soldiers to the capital. I got distracted by a treasure chest on some cliffs by the waterfall, and for some reason my quest "escorts" followed me, and they eiter fell into water and died or just disappeared due to bug. I've made all my way to the capital with my pawns only, because I thought I still can enter the city, but no - the guard won't let me in! Disappointed, I turn back and go the entire way almost to the first village... thankfully, soldiers I've had to follow had respawned/reappeared near the place they've previously gone missing. I've finished the quest as intended from there on.

I did as Nord did - got distracted and lost the escort, went back for them and the NPCs were just standing in place just in front of the gate, glitching a little. Nothing helped. Had to reload the last inn save. Got more than an hour of the game lost cause this lame AI/bug thing. It's really frustrating T_T

I had the same issue happen after I left an escort behind. I went back and picked them up, and took them to their destination but it would not complete. I saved and quit back to title and then reloaded my game from my last save and then was able to complete it. Reloading from last inn save was not required and no progress was lost.

Thank you for this. I lost the warfere guy ages ago and since then I have not been getting any escort quests turn up. Turns out he was dead somewhere along the road all this time. That was ages ago. I started his quest at level 20 now I am level 53, the guys been dead there and never even got taken the the morgue lol. My entire playthrough almost
