Downside to Changing Vocations
Hiya!
Are there any downsides to changing vocations? And I guess that same question goes for my main pawn as well..
Like is there a 'max lvl' and I'm messing myself up by changing vocations?

You're supposed to. The stats on level ups are meant to all work together, especially the augments you get from vocations. You can use augments from one on another.

Don't know the max level.

That being said, you'll need level each one and also have the respective armor and weapon for each vocation. Not too hard.

No downside

Your current Vocation determines stat growth on level up. If you start out a Fighter, then decide at level 100 that you want to be a Sorceror, your Magick skill is going to be awful.

You might be able to make up with it with good equipment; the game is pretty easy. That being said, you are definitely paying a cost for hopping around Vocations carelessly.

However, Magick to Magick and Physical to Physical vocations should largely be fine, and some Augments may make class hopping worth it.

Vocations go up to level 10 and the augments you unlock can be used on other vocations. So there is actually a good reason to max them all or at least get the augments you want for your main vocation. There used to be a downside in the first game but you can freely swap in this one

Edit: The comment above is wrong, they changed it so there is no min maxing stats anymore. Your stats change accordingly when you swap vocations in DD2

False, this is not how it works in DD2 but in DD1

You refer to the first game. They changed that system.
Dragon's Dogma 2 does not feature vocation-fixed leveling. Instead, players can swap between vocations at any time and the stats of their characters will adapt to match the new vocation.

My bad; the level up screen is a bit midleading in that regard.

So what stats you get on level up being tied to vocations is massive...is there a list of what classes get what?

Are there advanced classes? Classes that get more stats that you should rush to unlock? Like does warrior get better stats than fighter? Sorcerer better stats than mage?

You have no reason to rush anything. Once again, although called "advanced" in community, those are DIFFERENT vocations with DIFFERENT stat gains.
The DD2 vocations will adapt accordingly, do not worry.

So the way I understand it, is that your stats are adjusted based on your current vocation, and there's no reason to arbitrarily spend time leveling up while using any particular vocation.

This is a GOOD change. I hated how you could accidentally disadvantage your character in DDDA by leveling up too much on one vocation or not enough on another.

Basically, rank up all the vocations with augmentations you feel will be useful for you, try the ones you find interesting, etc.

My friend leveled as a fighter for 23 levels I have leveled as thief for 23 levels he swapped over to Thief and we compared the two I had higher magic defense, magic and stamina than him he had higher defense and HP and strength. So that shows there is some growth being carried over from leveling classes

It somewhat it, just not entirely, they homogenize at level 200 however, but 1 - 100 as a thief then changing to a magic class at level 101 will have a noticeable base stat difference
