How to stop guards hostile?

I tried to do quest to release a magistrate from jail, and when I start get in quest location there'r some guards there and they started attack me right awat. I tried to fight back but cant then get arrested to the jail, then I got out of there with gaol key. After that I trying to do The Stolen Throne quest, but everytime I get in Masquerade Location the guards there start attacking me right away again ( mask and rainment already equipped) . Now I cant continue main quest anymore, is there anyway to solve this problem guys? Or this's just a stupid bug?

Quest seemed bugged so I attacked the guards to see what would happen.
Got thrown in jail.
Got out with infinite Gaol key.
Not sure what to do now as I'm in the same situation as OP. Attacked on site at Masquerade location.

Someone said something about bribing a person but not sure who they are talking about...

FYI - use the Forger when doing the quest with Gaol key to make a duplicate. No more "makeshift" keys.

I was able to get through them fine by donning the marcher armor but I guess you have to be a fighter/warrior to do it..

EDIT: Apparently all vocations could wear it.

You saying you killed all the guards then were able to complete the Masquerade Ball quest?

Masquarade quest you need 3 clothing items to fit in with the others. You go there at dusk. Should be a guard outside saying "Behave or else". Now you can enter and fit in without being attacked.

The jail with the goal key is wack, I opened the cell doors one at a time as the guards passed by. Knocked the wall down in one of the cells and as soon as I talked to the old man I ran out though the broken wall. The old man will just walk right out.

Yes. Using all 3 pieces and attacked at Masquerade ONLY.
Went out of town and made camp for a day, came back. Attacked at Masquerade ONLY.
All other guards do nothing. It's just the guards IN the masquerade area that are still aggro'd.

Uh, 3rd times a charm....went back after running away the 2nd time and now guards are not aggro'ing...ugh.

What the 3rd piece, I thought only need Courtly clothes and mask? Btw I thought it's not clothes problem cause I alreay trigger cutscene when I walk in the hall, the guards still attacking when cutscene happening though

I had to remove my save game and restart the game due to this, 15 hours down the drain.
i love DD but the save system not so much

This is what I did (and yeah, all classes can use Marcher, since it's... not... armor... it LOOKS like armor, but gives nearly no defense for some reason). I forgot exactly where I got it, but...

I did that noble kid's quest before doing any of the castle quests since I was doing the monster quest at the time. He gives you free court clothes, so I did the masquerade quest wearing those. Somewhere around the castle or somewhere, I found a chest containing the marcher's suit, and decided on a whim to wear that when I went down into the dungeon since it just seemed to make sense.

I had a really quick and easy time doing pretty much all of Brant's quests. :P

The quest giver tells you not to get caught, probably had to wait during shift changes or something. Or sneak around the shadows. One of the vocation may even be essential to use like the rogue one. Think could go invisible in DD1 once the vocation is built up enough. Or maybe may have to use sleep arrows or spells on guards.

Complete total f****** joke this game is. I'm now being attacked by all guards everywhere. There's nothing I can f****** do they have 2,000 f****** health and there's no way to reset it. I can't even f****** start my game over again. How the f*** does a company release a game in this state it's f****** awful.

I've just realised that my problem was that I taunted the guards when I use the Shield taunt ability near the troll. How and why is it possible to taunt a friendly unit?
It's like they didn't play test this game AT ALL. What a disgusting and sorry state for this industry to be in.

at the end of the jail quest, and the start of the masquerade quest I now get targeted and attacked by the guards in town. And it seems to be random which ones.
But once one starts, it doesnt take long for the others to join in.

Im stuck in a constant quit/try again loop due to this BS.
