HOW SAVES WORK: FOR NOOBS
Hello, new adventurers!

Dragon's Dogma 1 came out as a competitor to Dark Souls.

Dark Souls has a punishment system. If you die, you lose your collection of souls and you have a single chance to get them back but if you die before you do, you lose them all.

Dragon's Dogma has a similar system designed to punish you for poor game play.

Dragon's Dogma 1 and 2 gives you two Saves.

You have a single Save file that Autosaves your progress as you continue on your adventure. It saves frequently for you. You can also force it to save from the menu.

This can be good, or it can be detrimental if something bad happens.

1. You get one save that you can save to or the game can autosave to.

2. You get one save that you can activate when you stay at the Inn.

Inn saves do not include your progress from the Autosave Slot.

If you adventure for many hours and something bad happens and you haven't saved at an Inn, you can reload your Autosave and try again.

If something really bad happens, you can load at the Inn but you will lose all your progress in the meantime.

This is designed to compel you to play smart in a Risk/Reward system that is similar to Dark Souls. XP loss is very similar, only Dragon's Dogma is more severe because if you really screw up, you can lose all your progress/XP.

Both games focus on Risk vs. Reward.

Both games recommend a conservative approach to gameplay.

Neither game is Assassin's Creed with a magic bird and quicksaves and quickloads and quick travel.

Again, this is a RIsk to Reward game.

I hope this helps.

Just to reiterate: DO NOT BE DECEIVED by people who tell you you should be able to savescum.

That is precisely what Dragon's Dogma is not.

This is not your normal AC game or friendly RPG. Don't expect it to be easy. It's not designed to be easy.

Thanks. Didn't know the concept.

I wish it was explained as a tutorial in game.

Sometimes, yes, if you're lucky and plan it right.

Though, I would still like to have a "New Game" button like in DD1.

There is already a character/save switch mod, where you can have multiple saves and characters.

With Denuvo, I would recommend against that until it is widely confirmed that this will not get zapped by Capcom.

I believe that Capcom has stated that is coming soon.

The issue is that, how can I be sure that I don't get any sort of "ban" for messing with save files as it has an online aspect(Pawn system and RC). So if not Denuvo(as it probably cares only about the installation), then Capcom's some sort of auto "Anti-Cheat" system.

Don't make the mistake of thinking that "campfires" are "Inn rests" too or act like them. This is how I lost 5-6 hours of play my first night with this game and got extremely pissed. Some little tutorial and very much IN YOUR FACE info about this save system would have been really nice to players.... really no excuse in my book but whatever.

I totally agree with you there.

What's the difference between manually switching saves and using the save manager?

Etxactly. None, cause it doesnt alter gamefiles

So you wont be banned for simply being a smart person.

The only time you'll be banned if you hack pawns.

+ Capcom will add a new game button anyway?

I was talking about messing with save files in general. Not specifically about the "save manager" solution.

Well unless you're doing something out of order (such as hacking pawn stats) your not gonna get banned. You wont even get banned if you mod in RC.
