beloved system, gifts and attacking NPCs

Sorry for copying this from Reddit, but as I did not get any good answers over there, I was wondering if maybe someone here could help. I am playing on PS5 but I believe the issues I'm having do not discriminate between systems.

(Minor) spoilers ahead for Glyndwyr and Doireann quests.

I have played DD1 and know all about how messy it can be. In this case, I have just completed Gylndwyr's quest which gave me an achievement for "reaching max affinity with an NPC" and he now blushes when I talk to him. Thing is, I wanted to rizz his sister up, not him! I tried to lower affinity by attacking him, throwing him or giving him bad gifts, but I cannot do any of that! I can't attack him, if I pick him up I can only release him gently and I can't even give him any gifts (the prompt just does not show up).

So I tried to go give gifts to his sister but again, the "Give Gift" prompt doesn't show up for her! But it shows up for other random NPCs so I am really confused. I have accepted the quest from her to heal the Arborheart, but I dont see why that would change things.

If anybody has any idea what to do or even why this is all so inconsistent, I am all ears! I would be willing to kill the elf guy if that's necessary but I cannot do any damage! Thanks and sorry for the long post.
