data000 and data00-1 bins are your quick saves so to say, while data001slot is the Inn save.
I keep back-ups constantly due to completionist OCD so if i fck up and progress main story via different way such as illegal borders or different end choice, i can go to main menu copy back my old save (I manually back it up every few minutes when i save my own game as well) and bam i don't have to regret my choice.
Ah, now I get it, it is 'a new game' option! It just removes everything, it is a new start!
OMG, there's a new game option, I found it, finally.
npcs from the main quests to go to the main city chased a harpie near a cliff and all fell into the water... no way to reload.. so i tried from last save... lvl 2 again
The weird part is if you corrupt your save THERE IS a start game option it's just hidden until you get a save corruption which is extremely moronic. This can't of been an oversight and it can't of been the developers being amateurs. Itsuno must of specifically ask for there not to be a New Game option.
I've looked past a lot when it comes to DD2 but this, this is something else.
maybe because as people have pointed out, when you do a quest and the quest either messes up or you do something incorrect, you can use an Inn save and go back before that quest to fix whatever the issue you messed up..
If you had a single save without that other option, if something messed up, you're done, that's it.. your whole save file is messed up with no way of fixing it,, with inn save you have another option, besides the , dang now I have to restart everything..
