If you're trying to min-max, it's a bit complex if you have no prior knowledge of the previous game.
Basically, you want your pawn to have ideal tank augments ( Typically +Aggro, +DEF, +MDEF, +STR, Less HP loss, +STAM or +STAM(recovery)) You also need to bear in mind that while you're hunting for different augments in different vocations, your stat distribution will start changing as each vocation has different stat alotment priorities per level. So, you should use the Ring of Endeavor (which boosts your DCP gains) and avoid the +EXP ring.

You absolutely don't have to go that far into min-maxing, probably exactly 0 people who hire your pawn will care, unless end-game or dlc is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ crazy or something.

Obviously you want good traits and optimal weapon skills. I don't believe anyone has rigorously tested which weapon skills result in absolute peak performance from pawns, as the AI is different from dd:da, so just pick stuff that helps you out for now.

Like I said in an earlier comment though, you shouldn't do any of that unless you want to and have fun doing it. Ultimately as long as your pawn does well what YOU want it to do, to compliment your primary vocation, you're all good.

true i was less worried about min max and just wanted to make sure i hadn't completely botched my tank with something that sounds good but really doesn't do much or overlooked something amazing do to the tool tip not sounding good but sadly i know i need to massively up her well everything before she will get many takers. thanks for the advice on augments though i didn't consider a few of them though once pointed out they make perfect sense

I just updated her in case you want to resummon. She's at level 30 and can now translate elvish. She also learnt the Celestial Paean spell that gives the party haste, stamina regen and such.
