This save system kinda sucks ♥♥♥♥
I lost about 3 hours of progress because it just randomly decided to use the "LAST TIME AT AN INN" save option upon dying.

Context i guess, I got home from work this evening and started the game, excitedly, when it loaded up I was at a camp site in the wilds with numerous quests completed. Upon loading after death I am back in the capital city with all that progress completely lost, I am unable to reload to most recent save now because the stupid ass system overwrote it and now the "LAST TIME AT AN INN" save is my most recent...

What the ♥♥♥♥ Capcom!?

Ok, this really sucks! I was thinking about where my last save could be but decided against the last-in and it was the better choice.

The tutorial literally tells you this and to manual save often.

I think they did it on purpose because people tend to not pay attention and run through the tutorial and now it bites them in the ass.:steamhappy:

You shouldn't play that long without sleeping in the Inn. Now you know why.

I lost 8 hours due to the game reloading my original character over my new one since apparently its stored on their personal servers and not local or steam cloud...

I don't ever sleep at inns but like once maybe twice a week in game, I use the camp system way more because that's where the fun is, out in the world.
I also do manually save often, I read tutorials and pay attention, I am not new to gaming I know how this stuff works. The game just decided to load my old inn save in that one specific instance, has not been a problem since, I almost want to say it was a bug because I definitely selected LAST SAVE not LAST INN.
So my loaded save should have only lost me like 15 minutes.

Now I have the save manager "mod" so this will never be an issue again.

This is the most archaic save system I have seen in a decade. Game crashed and on restart The only option I had was restart from last inn check point. Lost I don't know how many hours of game play but it was at least 8 Having effectively one save block and the autosave block is some stupid Backwards design that I haven't seen in a while. There are so many bat crazy design choices, and this save system takes the cake, especially when they released a product with so many bugs. I mean what is even the gameplay purpose for this type of system? It's not an Ironman mode, so if you're not doing that you're just setting players up for frustration when something goes fubar by not having more save redundancy, especially when you have a huge world with inns few and far between, not to mention having the inn save costing gold. That is such an idiotic design choice.

26 hours in and i never rested at the inn except the free one at the start of the game. im a cheap **** and just use camping so if it did that to me id quit

Read tutorials.
Auto save and Manual save are the same file. You can't turn off auto save.
Inn save is different file. When loading this save, it overwrites the both files.

So Inn save is your hard save. You are suggested to rest at inns frequently.

yeah I saw that. like i said i read ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tutorials, so explain to me how I HAD A SAVE FROM ~15 minutes prior and IT GAVE ME THE OPTION TO LOAD THAT EXACT SAVE FILE and then randomly stuck me 3 hours of playtime earlier in the Inn? I SELECTED MOST RECENT, which was the manual save i did in the wild before the encounter.

like i said before, I downloaded the save manager mod so now I can manuallk choose which save I want to load at any time and it backs up autosaves so this will NEVER happen again, at least to me anyways.

That's kinda on you for using the last inn rest. The game does actually save pretty frequently. The "last inn rest" will almost never be your most recent save unless you just rested at an inn.

I didn't choose last inn rest... i chose MOST RECENT/LAST SAVE which was a manual save from about 15 minutes before death... What are you talking about because I that's what I said. I didn't choose the Inn save option.

This is correct. Your non-inn save will get auto-saved over..Annoying as Hell. Basically, you are dropping 1000 gold whenever you want a real save game.

You will get a quest to look after a house in Vermund, after that quest you can buy it for 20k, and from then on you rest there instead of an inn. Pays for itself quick enough and also gets rewards left on the door from quests and has a storage box.
