Stolen Throne quest help

I am wearing the correct outfit and have the mask on but every time I enter the hall the guards attack me and they don't arrest me, they just kill me. I've tried reloading my save, restarting the game, nothing seems to fix it.

Its hard to describe, im sure there must be videos on it on youtube.
There is a NPC guard who's an ally that will greet you upon entering the palace grounds that will guide you to the side of the building with a door.
You have to go through there, for most this fixes the issue with the guard attacking you, but your game might be bugged if this doesn't work though. I hope its not the case.

To be honest, I think I've broken the game. Even if I manage to get inside the masquerade hall the guards inside will attack me. I'll just have to wait until they fix it.

aw man, that's a bummer.
If you want you can back-up and copy your save file -thats somewhere in the folders- and in the meantime start a new game, if you still plan on playing at the moment.
Not sure how long the fix will take nor do i know if it affects existing save states.
You can always try go into the support thread in this steam forum, maybe they can help you out properly.

Hey this happened to me too!! If you try to enter without the ball happening they will attack. If you don’t want to the guard they will attack. Go in and trigger the cut scene. If the cut scene doesn’t happen which mine didn’t go to the left and through the secret door (if you can’t find it YouTube helps lol)
Then go through the other opening to trigger that cutscene and your golden.
