Best starting class?
Having range at the start of the game almost feels like cheating. You can just pinpoint every weakpoint and drop the cyclops like it's nothing, but I imagine the ability to block comes clutch a lot, too. Thoughts?

Uhhh... you can just change vocation same as the first game...
never played the first game, and i know i can change in town, but i'm working on my archer vocation so it's currently the only class i've played and i dont want to remake my entire party comp.
in the first camp and is cheaper than a skill

No they took that out, your stats auto get set when you change now, no need do all that like on first DD

Nah they streamlined it. Stats auto adjust to the vocation you're using.
Source (or do they say it in-game)? Not sure how I feel about it. More freedom in switching classes is nice, but it feels like my choices don't matter as much, either.

All 4 classes are viable. Eventually you want to play as multiple (if not all) of them to unlike passive boosts.

Play what sounds fun to you. You wanna cast spells? Go mage. You wanna fire arrows and do archer stuff (the controls are good btw)? Go archer. You wanna be thiefy? Go thief. You wanna tank and get hit in the face alot? Go fighter.

Plus, you can round out your team with different pawns, so play what sounds fun.

You'll be replacing two of your pawns pretty frequently. Only your main pawn levels up while you play. The summoned ones are static.

Changing your job is no big deal. You can change your main pawn's job too.

i know, i've already replaced them a couple times, didn't know i could replace MP's vocation as well though.

You can change classes in town, and all your stats will rearrange to fit the new class.

I always recommend Assassin and in this game it really shines. There's no reason to be a Mage as Rook is one and you can make your pawn into a Warlock later. Assassin has a great passive you can buy with DP which loots weapons and armour off of enemies on hit, even if they're beasts like Ogres who have no armour or weapons to speak of.

If it follows the first game, starting as fighter will net you the highest end game hp. You'll want to be switching classes fairly regularly to max stat bonuses though.

Incorrect.

Min-Maxing is still a thing and every vocation has different growth. The difference now is there are several weapons for each in the game that make the game cake walk until NG3 or 4.

wrong you can change your class at the inn or guild for 100 dp what are you talking about?

I also started as ranger archer. Apparently you can have multiple saves if you manipulate the files (or make multiple accounts), but that's way too pain-in-the-ass.

I'm curious how the Fighters and Thieves are doing.

Thieve is fun, you can do a finisher and deal massive damage to light and midweight enemies, I plan to switch to mystic spearhand tho
