Why is the barber so obscenely expensive??
10,000 gold to line up my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fade?? What are they on, I can kit my pawn out in plate armor for less. It should be 100 gold max for the basic hair change. And before anybody says it, I don't care if I'm gonna be rolling in tens of thousands of gold with a few dozen more hours of play time, thats just straight up immersion breaking. In what universes economy could the price of a haircut be remotely comparable to custom forged armor? Same goes for the inns too tbh, 1000 gold to stay a night is ridiculous, should also be around 100-200 max, if not less.

10K is expensive only till you get mid game.

Armour starts costing in the 100K range and on up. Then the price of improving it.

If it's anything like the economy of DD1 you will have millions late game anyway.

Because they know you want it. Supply and demand.

Surprised they didn't add a gold MTX.

Think of gold pieces as a non-decimal currency (e.g. Japanese Yen). 1000 gold is like $10 USD in DD2.

You'll be swimming in the stuff soon enough.

My guy, did you miss the part where I said: "And before anybody says it, I don't care if I'm gonna be rolling in tens of thousands of gold with a few dozen more hours of play time, thats just straight up immersion breaking." How the hell does the common man that is not an Arisen afford to cut his hair and sleep a night at the tavern?

Can you only get certain styles at the Barber or is it the same options as the pay to re-customize your character?
DaBa Mar 22, 2024 @ 12:45pm
Excuse me sir but how many qualified barbers do you think our town has? Your're paying for a trained professional here! You're welcome to cut your own hair, of course, or ask some random drunkard to do it for you. Or you can pay me a fair commission and have it done exactly like you wanted.

There is no micro for the barber or the currency to use the barber

He probably means buying the items that remakes the character. Which you can also buy with in game currency...

Also, how is measly 10k gold making somebody any more likely to spend real money on anything?

At any rate, stupid argument nonetheless.

Why is there such huge inflation in the game anyway? Imagine physically wearing 10k gold coins in your pockets. Who thought over the economy of this world?

I am grateful daily, that I don't suffer from this "immersion" thing.

It's constantly ruining people's games. I'm glad I can just play and enjoy them, without having to worry about any of this "immersion breaking" crap.

To be fair, barbers and inns largely would cater to travelling merchants in a fantasy world (peasant don't travel), who are the ones knickle-and-diming Arisens, so they should have plenty of money to pay the same fees as an Arisen.

You're also applying real world value to gold, which it obviously doesn't have in a fantasy universe. Irl, gold was too valuable to be traded most of the time; we largely used silver for large purchases, and even less valuable metal otherwise.

In a world where the dominant currency is gold, it is probably not all that rare, and therefore valuable.
