10 - 15 FPS BOOST after changing shader cache to unlimited - TRY IT
Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings or Global Settings > find or add DD2 > Shader Cache Size > change to Unlimited

3000/4000 series GPUs have it in global settings, just go to Shader Cache size directly and change it, don't need to find DD2 program.

I'm able to run at a smooth 4k 60 fps in wilderness now, relatively constantly. Ryzen 5800H and RTX 3080 laptop GPU. DLSS quality.

The above apparently also fixes some crashes for some people (no guarantee)

UPDATE: some users reporting avg 20 fps increase!

2nd recommendation: Use FULLSCREEN mode and not windowed/borderless window - some users do report better performance - and this has also been proven to work for other games.

For AMD GPUs:

Make sure you are on AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 24.3.1 its updated for Dragon's Dogma 2. Make sure you are on Full Screen and have FSR3 Enabled.

We have a similar build and I also saw no improvement sadly.

With this and the frame gen mod, I get perfectly playable performance now.

Only problem is the frame time issue still causes stutters in large cities, but outside of that, it plays great.

Yeah fair enough. I figured since other people were reporting positive results that it couldn't hurt to try since there is not much that can be done in-game to improve performance, at least to my knowledge.

Can anyone explain like I'm 5 what this actually does? Changing the Shader Cache Size to "Unlimited"? What are the draw backs of this and do you have to change it back to default after your done playing the game?

5800X3D + 7900XTX. FSR3 in some scenarios somehow just increase micro sttuters to 90%( according to Adrenaline software monitor tool).

Alright, imagine you have a big box where you keep all the colors you need to paint a picture in your video game. This box is called a "Shader Cache". When you play your game, the colors you need are taken out of this box really quickly to paint everything on your screen.

Now, normally, the box has a limit on how many colors it can hold at once. This is like saying you can only have 10 different colors out at the same time. When you run out of space in the box, the game has to stop and get rid of some colors to make room for new ones. This can make your game pause for a tiny bit, like when you blink your eyes really fast.

But if you set the Shader Cache Size to "Unlimited", it's like saying your box can now hold as many colors as you want! This can make your game run smoother because it doesn't have to stop and throw away colors to make room. Everything can keep moving really fast and smooth, like a super fast race car!

Now, the only drawback is that having an unlimited box can sometimes take up a lot of space on your computer. It's like having a huge toy chest in your room—it takes up more space than a small one. But as long as you have enough space on your computer, you're good to go!

And no, you don't have to change it back to default after playing the game. It will stay that way until you decide to change it again. So if you like how your game runs with the "Unlimited" box of colors, you can keep it that way for as long as you want!

the default value is set at 10 GB and, from what I've heard, it's pretty easy to reach today. So if you're playing a game like an open-world game as you know. Dragon Dogma. It's probably a problem for some with sluttering

But 10 gb is a bit crazy. I'll try 100 gb first.

What drive does the shader cache uses? I'm guessing my main drive where the OS is installed? I'll probably try 100GB first as well and see how that works, I have my games on a 2tb ssd but main drive is only 500GB and already have like 350gb left

Most likely the OS drive.
In my case, it would not be problematic. NMVE with over 1/3 Tb left (rarely use it except for OS). If or when I install this one, I will probably install on C though.
Edit:
Also, the faster the drive the better for something like this.

Thanks mate! This and the Frame Gen mod from Nexus got me to around 110 stable FPS in the city! I got from 40 FPS to 70-80 FPS in the city just by setting the Unlimited Cache, and the frame gen added another 30 FPS to it and now it runs buttery smooth. I'll have to play for longer now to see if it's stable as is and playable without problems. Cheers mate!
