Failed to create save data
Title says it all.

I have tried almost everything.
From uninstalling, install the game, verifying the game.
From making a Dragon's Dogma 2 folder > Saves folder in the user-data folder.
Even disabling Firewalls, adding the game to the firewall.

I saw this in reddit, BUT! I cannot find what he is talking about.

*I fixed it! Maybe this helps you too. My steam user id folder (where the save data of dd2 lives) suddenly had not the permission to write or change the files within the folder anymore. So the game simply could not save anything, nor create folder 2054970 (which is the folder for the dd2 save data)

check your steam folder permissions here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\ [your steam user id]
(it's the number of your steam account)

or check permissions for the dd2 save data folder 2054970 that lies within...
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\ [your steam user id]\ search for folder 2054970

Replace "C" with the Hard disk letter you have Steam main installation on*

PLEASE HELP!
Thank you in advance.

I found a way that worked for me.
I looked for the folder "2054970" in your folder. It can be a general search. Once you find your the "2054970" folder > Copy and Paste it > userdata folder of Steam.

Find your steam library that has your "userdata folder." When you open it, it contains many other numbered folders.

I hope this helps.
let me know if you have any further questions.

Try the method I just posted above.

I've the same problem and can't fix it :( Seem it's a permission issues with Steam but cannot change it, still stay in 'read mode'. Find a working solution for me in Reddit :
"Just want to chime in and say that I had this issue plaguing me on my desktop - I tried running on my Steam Deck and no issue with save creation there, so this permissions solution got me thinking.

I didn't change anything per say with the folder permissions of the folder(s) inside userdata, but I instead created the folder "2054970" in my user ID folder, then ran Steam as Administrator and tried relaunching the game. It then created a save no problem.

I closed the game, turned on cloud sync which then found my save from my Steam Deck and synced to that one - now my save is on my PC ready for game release.

So try creating the folder and/or running Steam as Administrator first, and that might also help! I hope now that the save has been created, it's smooth sailing here on out for me.

Good luck! "

I was watching the top 3 streamers of the game by viewers last night and for one streamer (Max/Maxamillion) saving was broken. He could save, but every single time he would try to load the save it would always say the save was corrupted and kick him to the menu. Only loading saves from a inn worked. Wasn't able to fix it and had to end the stream.

It can be an issue with any game as long as you let Steam install to the default location. "C:\Program Files (x86)\" is a system folder, and you don't really want something like Steam installed in it.

I installed Steam into a folder I created called "C\Games." So now it's "C:\Games\Steam" and all my GOG games are just in "C:\Games." If you never want to have to deal with permission problems ever again, you need to do something like that.

As already written, the game lacks the authorizations to create the game file. However, i have found out that it only occurs if Steam is installed in a path other than C.

Unfortunately, the solutions already described did not work for me, so i approached the matter a little differently. This was remedied by reinstalling Steam in path C. The games did not have to be reinstalled and the error message no longer appeared and everything worked as it should.

I lost 22 hours of saved game data out of no where. After that my game refused to save anything both settings and main game save.

After reading all these comments and trying it out yes these do work,

I placed the 2054970 file right next to the user data file, turned cloud back on,
And ran steam as admin.
The game found the file and ran one of the newly created saves

I still lost my 22 hour file but the game is now saving after testing it out with multiple restarts

For anyone who is having this issue, follow the steps in this video^. I had a similar issue where I only had the option to "load from last inn save", and my manual saves wouldn't load and would give the message "failed to load save". Thankfully, I was able to retrieve my full save data cuz of the video.

The issue I had and the one that OP has in this thread seem to have the same solution.
