I ran into this exact problem. Game repeatedly hanging either during shader compilation or in the main menu. Tried several different versions of Proton. Denuvo has now locked me out of the game entirely.
FWIW, character creator worked flawlessly with no issues in Proton.
I just refunded it. Not worth the time or money, especially for a full priced single-player game that seems to barely work for people (even on Windows) and comes stuffed with microtransactions.
Same here, except I couldn't get it past the brightness adjustment screen before getting locked out. Did you get further? What version of Proton were you using?
(windows 10, fully updated drivers too.)
