What's the selling point of this game? Looks like generic Sandbox to me
I really don't get it, probably still buying because i'm so curious and i generally like the genre, but i've seen 2 areas from reviews etc, the generic green and rocky landscape and the generic sandy and rocky landscape.

Combat just looks like.. well, combat, except the sorcery stuff really looked awesome.

I hope there are interesting dungeons or different themes for places, but i'm wondering if i just havn't seen them because reviewers were cautious of environment spoilers or if what i've seen is basically all there is.

Story seems to be generic as well, so what exactly is the selling point of this game? I could play enshrouded and at least have building as a plus.

A game like this doesn't have to shine on all fronts for me to be liked, but can't see what this is about, seems like nothing really stands out.

It's really not a sandbox. It has a pretty linear, fairly forgettable story, it doesn't have any characters you'll become overly attached to. The main draw is really the fast-paced, action-heavy combat. It's spectacular and over the top, you get to do fun stuff with the game physics, that sort of thing.

Did not expect to see reference to bulletwitch in 2024. Bless Cavia.

I find the appeal of the original (and probably this sequel) is that the mixture of gameplay and RPG elements was done in a cohesive and well directed manner you don't really see that often. The combat system wasn't particularly complicated but mixed with character creation/development system it made for a lot of depth.

Story was pretty basic for most rpg (chosen one type situation) with some mild twists (the dragon kept offering faustian bargains that people accepted).

So it was just a lot of things done well put together in an interesting progression system with high customization for your character.

If it copies the first one, we'll mostly see forests, mountains, and dungeons for environments.

SIngleplayer game. When was the last time a good singlplayer RPG came out?

So you're saying the main selling point of the game is its story/narrative? Because that's the driving force of a good ARPG, right? Or, well, i could see it being a good RPG with a bland story if the character and world building is still interesting with choices that matter, not sure if it'll be that tho.
It's an open world game, why do you people ask such dumb questions? (people that ask what you do in an open world or survival game), you know what open world games are and consist of..... it's like asking what's the point of eating/drinking, going on an adventure

its an open world game, you explore the world, fight monsters, take quests, customise your character even after you completed the story, that is literally an open world game, if it's not your genre then what brought you to the discussions in the first place?

Combat, preparation and the pawn system. If you liked DD1 you'll probably like DD2 (from what I've seen) because DD1's entire selling point was the combat. The story wasn't great and it didn't have to be because the combat was what kept me going through the whole game and made it fun. It's similar to the souls game in that sense; You can follow the story if you want, but the gameplay is so fun it almost doesnt matter if you do follow the story. The constant preparation for missions with health supplies, choosing pawns really makes it fun as well. It really is like getting an action paced D&D experience by yourself. You never know what you'll encounter on your way to the next mission.

I didn't ask "what to do in an open world game", your reading comprehension needs some special attention my friend, just go play your game or something.

As someone who's played the first game, I feel like one of the main draws of DD2 is it's combat and how interactive and in-depth it can get.

With a good deal of encounters, you're having to figure out the weaknesses of monsters and how to best tackle them. For some you gotta use AOE attacks so a group won't gang up on you, for flying enemies fire might burn their wings and stop them from flying, for bigger enemies climbing them is ideal so you can reach their weak points, etc. And because of these different encounters, you might be swapping between vocations for yourself, your main pawn, and the ones you can hire so you can fight your way through. Also like Sera said above, the combat is helped by the fact it's faster paced and that distinction really does make it *very* different from souls-like combat.

The story is there and it does have some clever twists and nicely written ideas but that's not the most important thing you should go into a Dragon's Dogma game expecting. And when it comes to it's presentation, I do get where you're coming from when it comes to many of the designs and places looking very fantasy-medieval. I'm personally unbothered by how many of the environments and monsters looked, but I'm also sure that there's going to be some neat looking stuff here and there, especially if a DLC is in the works which will add more.
