Moreover, they could just add small scale multiplayer to DD2 if the demand was that intense. They don't have to make a whole ass expensive MMO.
MMOs are kind of a dying genre. If you look at successful modern MMOs, they largely let you play alone / with a few friends, and players largely do so. The aspect most people seem to like is not the social apsect, but rather the frequent content updates and playing with friends.

I honestly hope Dragons Dogma gets more popular enough in the West to maybe see something like that. But I'll continue to enjoy playing singleplayer
DDON was incredibly non-predatory with its monetization model. Not P2W at all in any way honestly. That's probably why it couldn't stay afloat, ironically. Cost of the servers, etc.
