That makes sense, that's what you did in the first game. hopefully that reviewer realized that if it's the case, but they were pretty adamant on there being no option in the menu for it.
To be fair - there job is merely to "review" a product, not give a 100% accurate descriptor of what it is. They likely never played the first one - or even considered that selecting "New" would need to put the save somewhere.
Otherwise - sounds almost exactly how DD1 works. You had to start a new Hardcore save or a new Speedrun save for example; granted I don't recall if the Hardcore one also overwrote your base save, it was still mostly a one save system (as your speedrun save is deleted for example if you quit).
Correct. And your also correct again, it is bad design. Console players will need multiple profiles to circumvent this, and pc players will need to keep save backups.
