Also to the point, your pawn gets a star rating on some stuff like usefulness and style, plus possibly a gift, from players who rented your pawn. If they didn´t throw them off a cliff that is...
I guess we will know more once the game is released.
they will mostly gain 'knowledge' regarding different things. Pawns that have learned about enemies, locations, or quests will make comments to try and guide you when you are in those locations, tackling those quests, or fighting those kinds of monsters.
Pawns will not gain 'experience' in the sense of XP to level up. They will receive an amount of Rift Crystals for the amount of xp they would have earned while traveling with the borrowing player. They won't gain any progress in their character level or vocation abilities. They can be given new equipment, but they will not lose any of the equipment they have when they are borrowed. Pawns can return with a gift item as well, and any items or equipment received will go into your storage when they return.
Pawns can also be rated, from 1-5 stars, based on a few different things like combat ability. At least they were in the last game. I assume a similar rating system will be retained here.
Pretty much. Also, their knowledge of creatures encountered will give them an advantage in combat. They will know for instance that fire is effective against a particular creature and let you know when it is encountered. They will use fire if available.
