Denuvo Question
Does anybody know if they're using Denuvo just to "protect" launch (e.g. after like a month or 2 of sales protection they're gonna remove it) or if they're gonna keep using Denuvo for the foreseen lifespan of the game?

I've seen both cases happen with games but haven't seen any info indicating either with DD2

Sweet, game prob be on sale by then too. I'll get it for cheaper and without crapware installed.

Questionable
I do believe they sell it in 6 minth increments but the answer is correct, most the time 6-12 months more has bin hears of but after that they have protected it from piracy as much as they can and often it doesn't even last that long.

Sometimes it's cracked day 1, it seems they are trying to layer to make it harder as far as I can tell.
Bright side is the majority of better rigs are lightly effected usually. I can have issues with any PC of course but not usually wide spread.

Also some people seem to think it prevents modding, and it doesn't it only prevents specific kinds of core file modding. Anything lighter like cosmetics usually possible.

POINT 1:

The crack time depends on what hacker group the game attracts. Some crack the game in days, others months. And if it doesn't attract any hackers then the game is never cracked.
With the video game ban's in Russia to support Ukraine, the number of hacker groups cracking games that are at least semi-popular is rising. So the odds are a game like this will be cracked within the first two months.

Point 2:
Denuvo performance hit depends on SSD/HDD speed for loading time and CPU for framerate. A game that is heavy in GPU but light in CPU will only suffer mild frame drops and a few spikes here and there whenever denuvo does a check. Load time is the bigger factor for those kind of games. But on CPU intensive games the impact can be pretty serious. But DD2 is not particularly heavy on CPU so shouldn't be a big issue.

Well, that assuming no major issues crop up for you and your specific hardware. Sometimes you just can't play the game for various reasons because of Denuvo.

Point 3:
It encrypts and obfuscate the code in the executable and practically runs it a virtual machine. This makes it harder for hackers to strip denuvo out of the game, but it also prevents mods from touching the executable. So you're right. Anything that would require tinkering with the exe won't work, but lighter mods that only edit values of files outside of the exe should work fine. So any games with denuvo will never have big mods like in Skyrim.
However, Capcom also uses a second DRM called Enigma Protector, I don't know much about this one compared to Denuvo but people have been saying it design to target modding now that capcom considers mods 'cheats' and are strongly opposed to mods.

Nothing I have seen about Enigma is anti mod, that's apparently some rumor spread around like fire that's still going when they started adding it to all their games, not long ago street fighter, MH titles, resident evils... all now have Enigma, and mods work on all those games still and resident evil has the same engine so it was easy to make a mod loader for Dragons Dogma already.

If mods work in old games with engima then if it's purpose was anti modding then they failed lol
However it may be a long term solution for more intense mods I suppose so you can't mod the exe files even after denuvo. Seems like more fear mongering about DRM then anything. A few legit complaints that it broke compatibility with steam decks but that was promptly fixed.
