Always online?
Has there been any official clarification whether the game needs to be always online or just periodically to check validation? The outcome would decide whether I get it on PC or PS5.

I'd like to try playing on steam deck too (it probably won't go well or go badly but I'd still be interested).

It's 30 FPS on the PS5. It's not going to play well on the Deck.
I can't say for 100% certain but the minimum requirements say "broadband internet connection" which suggest it is likely internet connection is needed.

That said pawn system won't require a ps5 membership to use from what I read online even though it's an online feature.

The original Dragon's Dogma/Dark Arisen also states broadband is required, but is playable offline with generic pawns.

You could also hire an online pawn and retain their service while offline, but their levels wouldn't progress until you reconnected so they could update. Subscriptions were not required back then either, as there is no multiplayer.

It's really all the info we have to go on, best to wait till release for this kinda info though.

yes, I know that consoles are stuck at 30 fps and that's why I chose the PC version with which I can take advantage of dlss3, but reluctantly because I love the physical versions and the immediacy with which you play on console. We'll see how it goes.

It's not a live service game, so no. You don't need to be online all the time. You'll probably require PS+ if you want to play online on PS5 though, unlike the previous title.

Then you have nothing to worry about.

to be fair, the PS5 version is native 4K only.

I would imagine the network requirement is for denuvo's anti-customer systems...

You can always wait a day or two after the official launch, by then anything that they do that's against paying customers will have been revealed fully and if they tick enough boxes you'd still be in the refund window if you pre-order.

Can only speculate but most likely it will be like DDDA. Only need online to upload your pawn, or to hire other people's pawn.. else you can only hire generated pawn. There is also Ur Dragon online you can fight "together" asynchronously with other Arisen, but even this have its offline variant.
