However, the fact that there's only a few heads that aren't distractingly ugly with no possibility to fix them with sliders means 90% of pawns are going to look the same. Most people prefer to make attractive characters after all.

Already got over 1000 hours in it. I did not think the original editor was bad. Could still do some decent chars. Not forgetting that the original is getting somewhat old even if still good.
They can be modified by a fair amount of degree but I agree that there is a good chance for repeats. Especially that not all players will put a huge amount of time in editing.

Just like with voice actors, number to of good looking presets are dismal, about 2-3 per gender
